AI differences in defferent Manalink versions

Postby Hadsingrinsen » 04 Dec 2020, 17:34

When testing the unmodified game on an old machine, I never saw the AI cast Earthbind on its own creatures, but I just noticed it doing so in the 2010 ISO version of Shandalar, which I think uses Manalink 2.0. Do different versions of Manalink change the AI's use of certain cards?

I am almost 100% sure that 2010 ISO shandalar part has the same code the last official update by microprose had. If you mean for the non adventure part then AI could have been changed but the chance is really low.

Thanks, that's encouraging. Maybe I just didn't check extensively enough. The specific situation where I saw it happen was when it had a Wall of Swords against my Wall of Earth and no other creatures were in play. It cast Earthbind on its Wall of Swords. Perhaps what I observed before was just that it won't kill its own creatures with Earthbind, because a lot of the flying creatures are 2/2.

I did almost all the testing outside the adventure mode in the original game, assuming it was the same AI. In the original, it is, right?

From experience and what I have read should be almost the same AI with very few changes. There is also a chance that what you saw might be a result of AI having too many cards in hand and will have to discard one and that results in AI giving more value to cast Earthbind (even to it's own creature that won't die) than discard a card at eot.

I can't recall if that was the situation. Hopefully you are right!
