Indeed Paint works, and is the only one that does the job :)

The game scales the images to fit. I created them for 1920x1080. Unfortunately the main screen image has to be 800x600 for the animations\buttons to line up correctly, so the 1920x1080 image had to be scaled down to 800x600. When the graphic is loaded, it stretches it to fit the screen but it is not truly a high res image file, but is set to not looked stretched on a widescreen monitor after scaling. The in-game graphics all are all high res and should load with all the details. The screen shot I used is from a 1920x1080 resolution after the 800x600 image is stretched to fit the game window. Then it is shrunk down to show all the other graphics on one page, so it looks a little better then it does at full screen. The game doesn't have a resolution setting, it just stretches the window to the size of your desktop and uses the resolution you have set for Windows. There seems to be a problem with the scaling of the counter and ability gems that appear on the cards on some monitors. How does the in-game images look on your monitor besides the main screen?
EDIT:
I added a screenshot of what the main screen should look like if the game could load it HighRes

The lich picture has to be named life_liched.pic, not life_liched.bmp, to show up; and the colorless mana picture has to be questmana_gray.pic, not questmana_grey.pic.

Thanks ozks

Thanks Korath, I'll fix the file extension. I tried to see which ones (bmp or pic) where required, but I'm not sure where the liched image loaded.

The links are updated with the 2 file name fixes Korath mentioned above.
If you already downloaded, please rename the files.
life_liched.bmp > life_liched.pic
questmana_grey.pic > questmana_gray.pic

Does anyone know what ability the mask is for?

Sarlack, the ability icons have all serrated edges in my screen. Weren't we for white-border icons?

It's because the exe uses nearest-neighbor scaling on ability icons. Your icon set has to be scaled to the exact size they'll eventually be displayed, or they end up looking horrid like that.

Oh, there is no hope then. I keep MtG in my dropbox folder, so if I tune it here, it will look horrible in my other PCs :P
Wonder why it looks cuter with the older icons!

Yeah, the scaling sucks cause the mattes only use black and white, no grays for transparency.
My resolution is 1920x1080, so the ability icons are 40x40 pixels. That is why I wanted a screenshot, so I could see how many pixels are scaled on screen. Orion79's screenshot shows the icons are 28x28 pixels, when I get home from work I will create an icon set at that size so it doesn't have to scale.

If the scaling looks bad for anyone else I could make a few different sizes and you could use the one best fitted for your screen.

Here is the icon set at 28x28 pixels. It may help, but the resolution is very low, so there isn't much clarity.
