the kill lag idea cannot really be done. I think it would introduce more bugs than it would help solve.

the mana idea is good. If you come up with an algorithm for this I can implement it. Just explain step by step how to decide what to tap automaticly and what not tap. I need extreme details for this.

As soon as the last colored cost is paid any excess cost should come from whatever lands/artifacts/creatures are clicked on for mana.
So lets take an example:
Wrath of God cost: 2WW
1) click a plains (the computer knows that W has been paid)
2 click on a darksteel ingot selecting white (hate the way this is done but it is a necessity until someone figures out a better gui for it (a panel contain a palette of available colors perhaps?)) (computer again knows that W has been paid, the colored cost is taken care of.)
3) click on a savanna (no need to select a color because the computer knows that it doesn't matter which is selected)
4) click on another darksteel ingot (this time no selection need as with the savannah)
5) Spell is "Played" and goes on the stack (or circumvents it in the case of split second).

You could replace steps 3 and 4 by clicking on other sources before the W has been paid but they would require full selection. (This allows a person to pay with certain colored mana if desired without losing the automation.

This is as explicit as I can get without actually drawing a picture. :)

In addition I recommend we remove the cancel feature of paying for spells as soon as the first mana is paid for. If a person cancels after that the spell isn't cast but the mana goes in a pool and clears at the end of step/phase as per the rules. (This would open up the idea of mana pools as sources of mana for spells which is a whole can of beans I know but if you have this in place when we figure out how to utilize pools that way it will be available instead of needing a rewrite.)
