is it possible to adjust the size of cards in the playfield?

Postby travolter » 29 Dec 2014, 09:47

Hi!!

First of all congratulations to all the developers!!! My first test with forge and really looks impressive.

I only disappoint in the autorezise feature when cards are moving into the playfield.

is It possible to change the way cards autoresize?

1) In my opinion I would rather use the smallest card size for lands.. since you only need to see if the land is tapped or not.

2) Creatures/artifacts/enchantments should have be bigger size than lands, because these are in fact the cards whom you are playing, so having a bigger size than lands is a must.

I dont know if its possible change these settings in current game. If not.. could be posible implement a feature to adjust the autosize and set different resize level for lands/creature/artifact/enchantment?

Best regards!!! ;)

What about non-basic lands that have important abilities, like turning into creatures, or destroying things? I'm not sure a "lands are inferior so should be smaller" declaration works across the board.

oh yes.. I know.. Im oldie and played many times with "double lands", "strip mines" or "mishras factories".

Its a common problem of many games using fulls. The size is so small that you need to buy a 27" monitor to enjoy cards images or be able to read the card text. I remember testing magma, botarena and they had same problem as forge.

Question: What about a code that crop full image card so only picture is displayed? (Manalink like). Just a checkbox inside magma to display only the upper part of the card image.

Im only requesting this feature cause I see that many modern MTG games are destroying the card art with tiny images/zoomed out pictures.

Have you tried hiding the tabs and/or reorganizing the different panes? That can increase the height of each player's field and thus the size of the cards.

That said, one thing I'd like to see changed is to stop putting tokens on their own row. It makes all the cards smaller, and I don't think it adds much in terms of organization. We can always have creatures wrap to a second row if there are enough of them.

Oh yes.. I reorganized the panels already to have more room, but thats not enough in some scenarios.

In a 4:3 monitor you can have more room for the height of cards.. so image is decent... but hey!!! who have a 4:3 monitor nowadays?.

I tested in my old 4:3 and into 16:9s.. and playing in 16:9 the images becomes so tiny as soon as you cast permanents that you cannt enjoy the cards.

The MTG ART is very important "to enjoy the game".... not only winning because your powerful combo or being clever than the AI.
I bet for a solution to enable more rooms for the MTG ART.. something like crop the upper size of the card just to show the image box, or just crop all but the art (like Manalink). Text rules could be checked with a floating panel when you move over the card.. or just reading the preview panel.. and about the card name, power/toughness etc.. just using overlays as is it implemented now.

Another option could be set different size preferences.. so for example mana can become tiny when no room available into the board.. but not for creatures or artefacts or enchantments.

Or what about set different "zones" of the board where you can rearrange your cards with the mouse an move them to places where images resize to different size levels? for example it you want a certain land to become as big a creatures you could move to than place...

Just ideas and suggestions guys.. I dont want to make you crazy. One thing is have an idea and other very is to code it.

Not sure if you know it, but you can display your cards full size by hoovering the mouse over them and clicking the middle mouse button (or clicking on your mousewheel)
I do that very often during a game.

No idea if there's a key for this in case you have a mouse whithout a mousewheel/middle mouse button.
probably outdated by now so you should avoid : Innistrad world for Forge (updated 17/11/2014)
Duel Decks for Forge - Forge custom decks (updated 25/10/2014)

You can hold both left and right mouse buttons together if you don't have a mouse wheel.
