How to identify token names/etc for file formats

It seems like every day or so someone has a thread about file formats/etc - is there a place where we can find definitively what the right way to name things for import are? For instance: tokens, crops, etc? I'm happy to do my own digging but it seems like we just need to wait until someone compiles a tokens zipfile and then magically it all works. It's not in the FAQ, and the last few threads I've seen asking it get ignored, so could we at least add it to the FAQ?
