Having issues adding basic lands to deck

Postby Unlmtd » 03 Jun 2020, 20:05

Hey all.

I am currently attempting to edit my deck on the Deck Editor on Forge and I have the latest version of Forge. When I use the "Add Basic Lands" option and choose the lands I want (with pictures) and press OK, for some reason, I see that in my deck list the cards are not showing up and the quantity remains the same at 97/97. However, when I click the "Statistics" tab at the very top, I can see the quantity increasing as I add the lands..right now it's showing 147 total cards in my deck but when I'm in the
Current Deck tab, like I said it's only showing 97 total cards.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I have also tried restarting Forge several times and trying to manually add the basic lands using the Card Catalog but still no luck. I really hope I can get around this cuz I like this software so much.

Thank you for your help!

Hi,

Strange.. and in case of "strange", always try to reset the (deck editor) "layout" (which seems to fix other non-layout related issues sometimes as well).

Resetting is possible for all basic parts of Forge (deck editor, battlefield or match and workshop layouts) in the button group at the top of the preference list.

Hope that was the it :)

Okay, I reset the deck editor layout including the workshop and match layouts and restarted Forge but still no change to my deck. I guess this is one of those weird one offs..oh well..appreciate your help anyways.

Hm, I'd need more info..?

Can you post a screenshot right before you want to add those basic lands and your deck editor with the non-added lands right after?

Also, check in C:\Users\<YOU>\AppData\Roaming\Forge if there's a Forge.log and if there's an entry which might be related, or post it here too. I mean, start Forge, go to deck editor, in your deck, add basics, and (doesn't matter if it worked or not for the moment) close Forge and post your log here.

I never heard of this problem, so all the info you can provide will help!

Which version of Forge is running, 1.6.34 from the main release thread? It's on a Windows 10 machine?

Also try a re-download and unzip somewhere else, maybe another hard drive if available and try to add basics in that fresh Forge.

If you have no problem with sharing the .dck-file of your deck, post it here too, those are in the same path as above, subfolder decks and there if it's a standard deck in subfolder constructed.

But maybe you got it working already?
Fingers crossed!

I checked the version of Forge and it is 1.6.34 which I downloaded from this forum. I am running it on Windows 10. It is quite an older Lenovo laptop but it runs Forge just fine.

I only have one partition on my SSD which Forge is installed on and I keep the main Forge folder on my desktop.

I went ahead and did the same procedure as last time..this time I added 2 basic islands and I have taken screenshots of both before and after doing so. See below:

Before adding lands (Current Deck tab):

Before adding lands (Statistics tab):

After adding lands (Current Deck tab):

After adding lands (Statistics tab):

As can be seen, the Current Deck tab stays unchanged before and after adding the lands and the total card amount in the Statistics tab increases.

Also, the .dck file I'm attempting to add lands to is this:
https://mega.nz/file/vHhlGSqT#lq43YbiPb ... xS9U8Q2YGw

And finally, the Forge log contained the following contents after the experiment:
Language 'java.util.PropertyResourceBundle@14c5515' loaded successfully.
(ThreadUtil first call): Running on a machine with 2 cpu core(s)
Read cards: 19975 archived files in 2988 ms (25 parts) using thread pool
Read cards: 399 files in 1627 ms (3 parts) using thread pool

An unsupported card was requested: "Emissary of Grudges" from "C18". We're sorry, but you cannot use this card yet.
An unsupported card was requested: "Find/Finality" from "GRN". Forge does not know of such a card's existence. Have you mistyped the card name?

Thank you again for your help :) hope we can figure this one out or at least shed some light on the issue.

Thanks!! That must be the most comprehensive situation report yet, well done! :D

I'll check this out in detail when I'm back from work :)

K.

PS: btw, what happens when you move the Forge folder containing the exe to the root of C:\?
Any change to the issue then?

I set it all up like you have, Forge folder on my W10 desktop, the deck editor, your deck.

So, yea, it's the "Unique cards only" toggle... (which is the first thing I usually disable :D )

I think this is what's happened:

With "Unique cards only" you have one Plains, one Island, etc which will be shown to you in deck editor. Those "unique arts" seem to be from Theros, Beyond Death/maybe current set (although I think I saw a toggle to not prefer latest/current art when showing unique ones, I'll respond again, should I find it)

So you added Plains from different sets (each time you add basics the set is chosen randomly and you'll see those fine! The Unique filter doesn't apply in the add basics subsection), they are added, but simply not shown, because you filtered them out.

They are all there alright  (I needed to disable deck conformity to be able to play a Commander deck with that much land  )

Oh, and you need to add the Commander properly, you can do so in deck editor, just switch from "Main" (next to your decks name in your screenshots) to "Commander" in that drop down menu and add Oloro there and save.

A quick note to "Unique Art":
If you disable this, you'll have a lot of blank templates in your deck editor, since the amount of cards needed to be shown more than doubled.
If you want to see scans of all those 41322 art variants, you'll need to Download "Set" pictures, which are only offered as LQ fetch through Forge itself (but you probably already know where to look for hi-res scans, XLHQs, etc to add those manually).
What this does is create subfolders in your cache/pics/cards folder, which is the only way you can see 400+ different Plains arts

All right, time to cut down some unnecessarily added lands, maybe? :D
Keep Forging!

Thank you so much for the continued support CptKird. You are a great friend :) I'll follow your instructions and disable the settings etc. Nice to know that Forge is a stable software and I can work on my MTG skills using it. Thanks again and much respect to the entire community!
