How can I download forge?

Postby teh-gamiz » 07 Jul 2012, 09:05

Sorry I am new and just watched a video on YouTube of forge and was wondering how I go about downloading it and getting to play it as it seems pretty good if I am honest.

The top most stickied thread has the latest release with download links and instructions. Where on YouTube did you see Forge?

The most recent version of Forge can be found at this link, read the first message:

Forge Beta: 06-25-2012 ver 1.2.9

Download the appropriate archive and then decompress the archive.

After decompressing the archive you should read the two files named:

CHANGES.txt
README.txt

After reading these files you should then launch Forge via the appropriate launcher which is dependent on your operating system.

Yes, you need to extract/decompress.

We have changed the archival format used for the Forge distributions from ".zip" to ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

If you unistalled Java 7 then you need to install java 6 since forge is a java app.

A recent fix was submitted to the forge code base and the previous java seven bug may well be fixed at this time.

So, you can reinstall java 7 and try forge for awhile or you can install java 6.
