Beginner's questions on quest mode
by Youdz » 03 Mar 2012, 08:29
Hello all, I find the project of making a correct AI very interesting, so I decided to try Forge and see how you were doing.
Of course, I was immediately "sucked in" by the game, and I can't stop playing Quest mode.
I do have a couple questions, though and I couldn't find answers in any sticky thread or even recent thread.
1) Rules are enforced during the match, but absolutely not during game construction. My pool contained Laboratory Maniac, so I just tried to make a 9-cards deck, and it worked. After 20 games or so, I have a 7-card deck that always wins on turn 1 by playing Maniac and free-cycling a card. Is that normal ? It shouldn't be too hard to at least force a minimum of 40 cards in a deck.
2) Since I earned an insane amount of credits with that deck, I bought pretty much all the upgrades in the Bazaar. Some of them (I don't remember the name, sorry) say that they increase the frequency of "quest encounters", or "quest proposals", something like that. I have 20 wins, and I still haven't seen those quests. What are they ? Challenges have appeared, though, and that brings me to the next question.
3) I beat the 4 dungeons in the challenge (all except the blue one, which is perfect against my current deck
), and they're still here. Is that normal ? Can I just beat them indefinitely ? And what would that give me ?
Thank you, I know some of these questions must seem obvious, but the total absence of manual or FAQ kind of confuses me. ^^

1) This has come up before ... the devs decided that they need to be able to test new cards and code by using small decks as this helps to speed up the testing process. People can always force themselves to design decks that have 40 or more cards.
2) Quest encounters and challenges are the same thing.
3) Currently, all challenges are repeatable. We may change this at some point in the future.

I haven't tested it recently, but a lot of the quests should not be repeatable.Chris H. wrote:3) Currently, all challenges are repeatable. We may change this at some point in the future.

Now that you mention it I think that I remember someone stating that this had finally been implemented a few betas ago.

Umm.. in the old UI there was a small text stating if a challenge is repeatable or not. And IIRC none of the challenges that were marked "This challenge is NOT repeatable" came up again after I beat it.
Actually I had planned to complain that this info is not anymore shown in the new UI, but seems I forgot...

Thanks Roujin, I'll take a look. I think the reason I left this out was because all of the quests are repeatable at present...but will look into it again.

Hi,
New to this forum. Hope I'm not necro'ing this thread too much, but this seemed like a relevant topic: How would I go about including different preconstructed decks in the quest mode?

From the root directory, precons live in the following folder:kajarang wrote:Hi,

res\quest\precons
feel free to open up one of the existing precons and use that as a template of using your own. I believe you need to set WinsToUnlock to 0, if you want to start a quest using that precon.

Thanks for the response. I had found where the preconstructed decks were, but I'm not a programmer in any sense of the word. I tried exporting a deck to that folder, but when I tried starting Forge up again I got an error. Not sure what to do...friarsol wrote:From the root directory, precons live in the following folder:kajarang wrote:Hi,

Try opening up one of the existing precons, saving it under a new name, and then formatting a decklist in the same way the existing precon has one formatted. That's what I do when I want to "make a new precon" it doesn't really have anything to do with programming, just using a templating and changing the parts I want.kajarang wrote:Thanks for the response. Hint: Open the dck file with a text editor (for example Wordpad).friarsol wrote:Try opening up one of the existing precons, saving it under a new name, and then formatting a decklist in the same way the existing precon has one formatted.
