Yes you have to create the folder. I changed the default because I prefer to have a sub-folder with all the stuff related, easier to move around.
Exemple of Directories | Open
+ MTG Forge
---+ ForgeDistribution X
---+ ForgeDistribution Y
---+ ForgeData
-------+ cache
-------+ decks
-------+ ...
-------+ pics
-------+ ...

But I noticed some issues:
- If you define the default directories elsewhere and you go to "Current Deck" tab and click on "Load"/"Save as" Forge always opens the old default "Documents", although if you use the "Save" it saves where it's supposed to. When you go to "All Decks" tab and "Edit" it all works fine, but it might be harder to navigate there if you have many decks.

- Many card pics doesn't show up. I have many cards that don't show up even though I have 1 or more pictures of that card (different sets), it seems Forge is only checking pics on a predetermined set.
Card Exemple | Open
Rancor is defined on:
SetInfo:PC2 Common
SetInfo:ULG Common
SetInfo:ARC Common
SetInfo:M13 Uncommon
SetInfo:DDD Common

Although I have the M13 HQ pic (and some other sets) it doesn't show up, I think it's only checking PC2. On Deck Editor when you pick Standard filter Rancor shows as standard but on Set column says PC2. Some cards have the a recent set they were re-issued while others show an old one.

I haven't been using forge for quite a while, so I don't remember how it went before, but I think I was able to choose the pic that I wanted to show up... either way, atm I don't have any UI to choose the picture that I want to be used. So I leaving this as a suggestion on the Deck Editor UI.
I tried to Import the pictures again trying to make Forge "see" that there is a pic on another set, but the importer assumes all is well, and shows 0 new pics to import. There isn't any UI to fix pictures path there either.

What's the best work-around atm? Editing card files or pic folders is kind of slow.

In the deck editor you should be able to use the filter to display only the cards from a specific set. You could then choose to add one of these cards to your deck and this should automatically assign the correct card picture and set info.

So the Deck Editor UI should allow this to happen but it is not necessarily easy for people to figure this out. :)

Hmmm... ya you are right, thanks. I was a bit suspicious with the answer cause when I posted the previous post I actually tested with Standard filter and it didn't change the pic, since the mechanics should be alike I didn't test other filters though, guess they have different behavior.

It fixes the picture only if you define the actual set, other filters don't, and like you said, it's not that easy to figure it out.
