Thanks! Glad everyone seems happy so far. I'm definitely planning on doing the other pets as well (and hope to establish myself as the semi-official artist for ForgeDennisBergkamp wrote:Moomarc, these look absolutely beautiful! Thanks a lot for creating them
Are you planning on substituting the pets also ?

Then regarding the Bazaar icons, is it possible to use a slightly larger icon? In the new bazaar it looks like its just square, which makes for a good icon, but I feel that a larger one just makes for better eye-candy and usability design-wise. I imagine a seed packet with an image of the relevant level for the plant wall. I'll make a quick mockup when I have a moment...

The icons used in the new bazaar measure 40 x 40 pixels. I was able to increase this to 50 x 72 pixels and the plant wall looked more like a card and less like a square.
Unfortunately, this also changes all of the icons for all of the bazaar stalls to use the same sized rectangle shape and the coins, book, bottle, etc icons come out looking weird.
All of the bazaar stalls are using the same code and I could not find a quick, bug free and easy way to have square shaped icons for some stall icons and rectangular shaped icons for the pet shop and the nursery.
I guess that we could use just the artwork and not the full card image for the small pet pic icons displayed in the stalls. I can increase the 40 x 40 pixels size to 50 x 50 pixels or 60 x 60 pixels. This would allow for more detail.

I envisage something like this... Still needs a little work but gives a good idea. This size (250x250) would be ideal for these if they can be separated from the other icons. But its still okay at 60x60.

Nice, I like it!
In a way it makes more sense to show a bag of seeds rather than the token image.

I modified the code used in today's beta. I increased the size for the pet tokens in the bazaar stalls from 40 x 40 pixels to 80 x 80 pixels. I then exported a new jar file for you to try with today's beta.
This new jar file will let you go into the quest bazaar stalls and see for yourself if the art you are creating looks good at this new size.
I think that I may be able to take it up to 100 x 100 pixel size. At this size and above the pics start to overwhelm the text and at some point larger sized pics would require a major re-write of the existing quest bazaar and stall code.

Thanks Chris. I'll give it a try over the weekend. Do I just overwrite the .jar in today's release?

Yes, it should be as simple as that.

Marc, I had an idea. Located in the /forge/res/quest/ folder is a file named "quest.preferences"
You should be able to edit the "startingCredits" line and give it a much larger number. This in turn will give you the credits needed to buy all of the pets more quickly.
As you develop the pet pics and their stall icon pics you will be able to see the results using the modified jar that I uploaded for you.
- quest.preferences | Open
- difficultyString=Easy,Normal,Hard,Very Hard
# Num of Wins for each Difficulty to gain a Booster, Rank, Duel vs Tougher AI Decks
winsForBooster=1,1,2,2
winsForRankIncrease=3,4,5,6
winsForMediumAI=10,9,8,7
winsForHardAI=20,18,16,14
winsForVeryHardAI=40,36,32,28
# When starting a quest this is how much of each type you'll start with. Plus your starting Credits.
startingBasicLand=20
startingSnowBasicLand=5
startingCommons=82,80,78,76
startingUncommons=20,18,16,15
startingRares=10,10,10,8
startingCredits=250
# When winning a booster pack, this is what you'll expect to see in a pack.
boosterPackCommon=7
boosterPackUncommon=3
boosterPackRare=1
# Match rewards that are used by the quest system
matchRewardBase=10
matchRewardTotalWins=0.3
matchRewardNoLosses=10
matchRewardPoisonWinBonus=50
matchRewardMilledWinBonus=40
matchRewardAltWinBonus=100
matchRewardWinOnFirstTurn=1500
matchRewardWinByTurnFive=250
matchRewardWinByTurnTen=50
matchRewardWinByTurnFifteen=5
matchRewardMullToZero=500

Is there any way to make the icons relate to the pet/plant level for sale rather than what you currently have? That way icons will show from the first level.

I have not had a chance to thoroughly look over this section of code. I did a quick check and found where I could increase the icon size. But your idea might be possible without too much of a code rewrite.

The DMCA notice is really annoying! We're actively trying to move away from CR material! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to work faster on these. Every bit of activity towards CR free content helps. I just need to finish this crazy project I'm working on for a client at the moment (3d robot character that needs to be printed at man-size scale
and I only have a week to do it when I'd normally need 4!)

Whoa, and I thought I had a busy life!
I've been "stealing" some stuff from opengameart.org (which is open source licensed art), and I ran across this collection:
http://opengameart.org/content/700-rpg-icons
Some really nice icons there, plus they can be used and modified freely, I wonder if we can use some of them for Forge.

I still have enough time to check the latest posts on the forums at least and soon I'll be able to start contributing again. (Just getting a full night's sleep every night would be handy at this point.DennisBergkamp wrote:Whoa, and I thought I had a busy life!

I had a look at the icons and there's definitely some that want to be used. If you decide to use any of them but want it worked on a little to give more life, just drop a comment here with the file names or send me a PM. By Monday I should have this big project off my back, then its just small jobs and Forge content.

@Chris. I reckon you can retire this thread (or unsticky it, whatever) seeing as the art development is continuing in the dev's corner now.
