Sounds good, land stacking is something that many people have asked about. I don't know much about gui programming so I had no idea how to program it.

After a few hours of digging through their source, I finally managed to get landstacking working
I've always thought of a computer program as "accumulated knowledge" because you add a piece here and another piece there, almost like you are writing a book or encyclopedia. A computer program is also accumulated man-hours. Thanks for the effort.

Chris H. wrote:The Solo Magic: the Gathering web site states that the applet requires Java 6 update 10 or above. Apple tends to be a little slow on releasing the latest java versions. We get a new java update maybe once or at most twice a year.
I turned on "Show applet lifecycle exceptions" under Java Preferences on my Mac and received this response:

java.lang.UnsupprotedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file

I think that it is possible that my assumption that Apple's Java 6 version is less than update 10 is correct.

Sun doesn't update the mac version directly? Or is it just like the IPhone apps, that Apple has to approve everything.

Apple maintains very tight control of it's OS. We get our java updates always from Apple and not from Sun. It is possible that Apple actually has some coders who are responsible for the Apple version of java.

mtgrares wrote:The applet guys now have 4 versions of the applet MTG Forge. I'm not sure this is a good thing but hopefully everybody can get at least one version working. Ideally there should be only one version, but even getting Java to run the same everywhere is hard. Java's motto used to be "Write once, run anywhere", which is mostly true, lol.
This tuesday morning I once again tried to load this applet into my Mac's copy of Safari and, wow, it is now working. Awesome. =D>

While playing I have noticed that the lands are placed into a stack that is four cards tall at most. It makes it fairly easy to determine how much mana I have in play.

The decks that they have appear to have come from an early version of the all-decks2 file. If they were to add in the 100 deck archive and the newer decks that have been posted to our forum, it would be even more fun to play. We recently had someone asking if we had an all-decks2 file with the above files imported, I wonder if that person was a part of this applet project?

Google :P
"Magic online" or something...

I was trying to find out what options are available for PC playing.
I played Magic -very briefly- many, many years ago, so I'm really less than a noobie, but I've always been fascinated by the game and its genially simple yet all-permitting mechanics...

I have google analytics for my blog. (Google Analytics is like a very sophisticated webpage counter.) My blog gets about 200 hits a day. This is the top 5 sources and keywords which people use to find my blog. I posted my blog and program to Magic's Videogame Wikipedia.

I see that the delvegames@gmail.com guys have improved their site. They have imported decks from our 100 deck archive and there is a listing of familiar deck names that you can click on. This will provide the text from the descriptive text files that are included in the archive.

The only thing I don't like about this is that they took the decks and didn't attribute them to anyone where there were specifically just a few of us working on them. Maybe it is petty but give credit where credit is due. Other than that it is an amazing port from Java application to java applet. It does retain the same clunky UI but improves it a little with the information displayed. Overall an impressive job.

(Sorry I didn't add my 2.5 cents before.)

They should give credit to everyone for everything. Attribution is the currency of the internet. If they can't give credit they should remove the app, period, and they should be contacted regarding same. As the developer I think mtgrares should do it.

Sigh, I was hoping that my message would not cause so much strife. :(

The Solo Magic web site states, in part, on it's introductory page:

"Converted the basic part of a Java application that allows you to play Magic solo, with slight tweaking of the UI, to run on the web. The original application was created by Forge, who maintains a blog about programming Magic in Java that can be seen here.

Information about some of the decks is here. The decks came from this forum which has an active community of people that continue to contribute to the original project."

While the web page has only a limited amount of text content, they appear to be enjoying themselves. Anyone who stumbles across this page can read the text that I quoted, click on the included links, and be directed to our forum here at CCGH. :)

It's not strife, I was only making a general policy statement. Just ignore the parts that don't apply.

Sarcasm duly noted...sadly however it is wasted being this IS the internet. :) Also because my comment had nothing in common with your response really except that it would be nice if the decks descriptions were not simply moved from the forums to their site without some attribution. Note the words used so that you don't get confused as to the meaning. "It would be nice..." not "Cease & Desist!" :)
