XBox - Duels of the Planeswalkers

Postby mtgrares » 09 Jun 2009, 18:41

Has anyone tried the new XBox Magic game? I don't think Wizards is going to release it for my tried and tested PS2 although I'm hoping that my computer can play the PC version (when and if it is released).

I highly doubt it will be for the PS2, considering it's for the XBox 360's XBLA. I also highly doubt it will be for the PS3, because they probably would have announced a PS3 version before now.

It's highly doubtful that the PC version will run on anything less than P4 technology with 512 MB RAM, and a DX10 compatible graphics card.

Which is just ridiculous for a card game, IMHO, even one as deep as Magic. (Graphics-wise I mean.)

It's being developed primarily for the 360 as is most things these days. The reason for it is that it's MUCH harder to bootleg stuff on that system.

That being said, I'm very much looking forward to this and hope they do a good job on it. Also, 10 bucks is pretty damn nicely priced.

No xbox here but I will definately check out the pc version.
(if only to see what "minor" upgrades we need to make MTGForge even up to it. )

Well, MTG Forge will look a little pale compared to the high-def, widescreen Xbox version. I'm wondering how good the AI is.

I didn't realize that it isn't out yet, it comes out Wednesday, June 17.

So, I presume we'll have to pay to get cards on there, yeah?

You don't have to pay for the cards like Magic Online. It has around 280 cards and a 40 hour single player campaign. You can also play against someone else over the Internet or in a Two-Headed Giant game. It also supports free-for-all multiplayer with up to three other players.

It seems to me that Wizards is just testing the Xbox market to see how popular it is so they can decide should they offer a version of Magic Online for Xbox.

280 cards? Ha! It's got nothing on MTGForge's ~1700 cards then

Seriously though, this looks like a lot of fun, kind of like Shandalar back in the days. Since I don't have an XBox, hope they will come out with a PC version (the info I could find on it mentioned it was definitely coming out on XBox, PC maybe).
I'm sure the AI and user interface will be very good, I'll definitely be checking this out if there will be a PC version.

They make it more into an action game, as you have x seconds to respond to a spell or abilities.
Overall it looks like they want to market the CCG with some flashy and tempo based gameplay which doesn't really happen in a regular match.

Also I think they had to wait this long for release because it will implement the new rules.
