Although I don't know why these guys took down MTG Forge's online (applet) they do have a dice and card game that you can play for free. The dice game is a basic dungeon crawler. I think it would be interesting to program a dungeon crawler but I'm not sure what rule system to use. I would want something that I can understand but also has depth. I would use the Dungeons and Dragons rules but I won't pretend to understand them at all.

If you want a browser operated, javabased dungeon crawler, look no further than "Caverns of Underkeep".
Link:http://www.tinyfrogsoftware.com/cavernsbeta/
It is simple, timeconsuming and can be completed. (I maanged it once, liked it but will not try it again since it took one, long session.)

For free print, cut and play card/board games, try these 2 sites:

http://www.angelfire.com/games2/warpspawn/
I am a bit of a cardgame freak so I often search for free games to try.

If you ever want to break away from magic and go retrostyle zombie hunting, try this:

And if you are thinking: "cut that out!", then you are right!
http://www.cubeecraft.com/ go cut that out!

Wowsers! That went from on-topic reply to sidestepping reply via derailing reply to a finish just a cut above the rest. I am good! 8)

Tunnels and Trolls is a cheap alternative fantasy rules system that mostly works on common sense. Id recommend using it for any simple RPG online.

Hmmm took about 1.5h to complete from start to finish with a score of 15349. Certainly very simple compared to most roguelikes and much easier in terms of forgiveness for misclicks/miskeys. Which I like...Doesn't seem to have much replay value.

BIG BUMP!
http://delvegames.com/
The free single player dice game Rares pointed out earlier, has seen a few major updates.
There is a list of heroes from which you pick 4 to use in your adventure.
Drew, the original creator, released a total of 3 adventures to play with your heroes.

And... drumrolls:
I created 2 adventures as well. They can be found on the main page and are easilly spotted since they say: "BY Mr. Chaos. :)
The first one, "The Undead Wizard's Tower" was just me getting my feet wet. It is a single page adventure with 9 encounters, a few more than the adventures Drew created.
The second adventure by me, is the one I am most proud of as it features 16 encounters over several pages and is story driven.
That one is called: "The Cursed Keep" and is quite a big leap forward compared to the simpe, single pagers.

Oh, and don't tell anyone yet, but I am already working on adventure #3, again a story driven, multi page adventure.
So, download the rules, the heroes and the adventures and grab some dice. The adventure awaits you!
My the dice be with you.
