AAR of my longest match ever
by Fizanko » 24 Feb 2014, 02:16
On one of my quest duels, with my green deck i ran into "the Cow" and its minotaur-based deck.
The 1st round had me luckier than the AI, as my hands were good and my best cards came quickly in the order i needed, while the AI wasn't lucky this time and ran out of lands in hand, giving me enough time to secure the battlefield and defeat him before he could start his avalanche of strong minotaurs.
The 2nd round went the other way, impressive how things can be so well then so very wrong with the same deck
, i had really bad luck in my hand and was mana deprived (despite i had enough land for my deck) for too long while he managed to field several of his heavy hitters soon, so it was only a matter of turns i was completely defeated.
Then the last round, at first he started to get the upper hand, damaging me more than i damaged him, until the battlefield started to balance itself and neither me or him then could afford to attack (as the one that would have attacked would have been blocked without hope to kill the blockers, and on next turn it would have been "game over" with all the defending troops taped)
And it's where the power of the Contagion Clasp artifact proved its worth.
Oh it wasn't much of a threat when it appeared and damaged a bit one of the minotaurs (as the AI had already powered them up) , but its secondary ability "Proliferate" showed that it could be powerfull on long term battles, like the one i had in front of me.
Because i had 3 Crocanura and 1 Battering Krasis deployed, each with a few counters on them.
Proliferate each turn was then able to give them +1,+1 more counters.
And as it was a long term battle, i could easily pay the cost each turns as i had plenty of lands (and the ai too as he could field more minotaurs each turns).
After some time my 2 Nessian Asp came and i turned them into Monstrosity (as i could easily afford the cost), they then got a few counters and so could benefi too each turns from the proliferate getting an additional +1,+1 counter each turn !
I could then probably have attacked before but i decided to see what was going to happen, and waited more turns, in which the AI was doing the same.
The battlefield started to be very populated

And as we both had still enough cards on our libraries i decided to wait a bit more, as i knew what i had in my deck and would from now ensure 100% victory regardless of the amount of strong minotaurs the AI could deploy and their various powerups.
Some turns before my Predator's Rapport coming.
My strongest creature, the Battering Krasis i evolved with the Contagion Clasp since so many turns allowed me then to get out of my 8 lives danger zone and reached to some insane 71 lives in just that card !
Then one of the card i waited appeared, Alpha Authority that would make sure the large amount of powered up minotaurs from the other side wouldn't be able to gang up enough as blockers to kill my heavy trampling creature, as the card allows only 1 blocker against him.
So with my Battering Krasis trampling ability it was now game over for the AI

the battle, i never saw so many arrows

Poor "the Cow" , though it had beaten me badly on a previous game when i was trying with a completely different deck, so it's a good revenge.
I just love Forge, even when i'm unlucky in my hand cards picking order and get annihilated by the AI.

probably outdated by now so you should avoid : Innistrad world for Forge (updated 17/11/2014)

Fun AAR!!! That final battle resembled a Forge version of the Battle for Helms Deep!
