Snapshot builds

Postby timmermac » 04 Oct 2014, 15:05

There are now 2 places to download snapshot builds. One location has builds that are posted at ChrisH's discretion, the other has snapshots posted for most revisions.

ChrisH's builds: http://cardforge.org/releases/snapshots/forge/forge-gui-desktop/

KrazyTheFox's auto-update site: http://www.krazyweb.net/forge/

Those who regularly visit this site will probably grab the KTK snapshots.

There are people who only visit the cardforge site and they do not visit the forge forum at slightlymagic for some reason. So I do plan to continue the occasional snapshot build to the cardforge site.

My CI server apparently ran out of the disk space I had given it and that's why no builds went out for the past couple days. This has been fixed and new builds should be up.

Snapshot builds (from me) will remain offline until no later than November 15. I'm going on a business trip that'll possibly last until then and after much debating, I've decided to power down and unplug my machines while I'm gone. They will return after I get back with greater reliability than before, as they'll be built on an always on machine instead of my main development machine.

Good news, everyone! While it did take me much longer to get back than I had expected, I have just finished standing up my continuous integration server again on a dedicated machine. Provided builds don't fail (there appears to be an intermittent failing test at the moment), they should now be getting uploaded with every commit (or batch of commits over short time periods) once more! Your regularly scheduled Forge updates shall now resume.

You can reach them at the same place you used to be able to: http://www.krazyweb.net/forge/

Welcome back!!! These snapshot builds are wonderful! The latest regular release had a weird bug which prevented the user from switching to and from Deck Builder and Home. I like to switch between them because I have been uploading new decks for the community and I like to test them. Having to restart Forge was a drag.

It is fixed in the snapshot I downloaded from your site and I am a happy tapper. ;)

Where do I put the updates? do they go into the Forge folder? also do I have to get all of the files in a particular build or just one of them?

Hi JDS,

I've always put the snapshot builds and the bi-weekly betas in my Forge folder. Just unzip the archive to that directory and allow it to replace files.

Additionally, I always run the Content Downloader with each new Beta. I choose the first option in the list "Download Default Card Image."

Of the four Magic AI games on here that I play, I find updating Forge to be easiest, followed next by Magarena, BotArena (though BotArena has the longest time interval between updates so I have to go back and review :) ), then finally Manalink 3.0.

One last note: if you aren't getting LQ pics on the Content Downloader that is usually because they aren't available yet. The developers of Forge do not control the availability of LQ pics. That said, if you look around in both the Forge thread itself and the Card Pics thread for all programs, you will usually find LQ pics and at least for me, I have found them already renamed for Forge and it's just a process of downloading these images and placing them in the proper directory. I've done this for Khans of Tarkir, Journey into Nyx, and Magic 2015.

If you need help as to where images go, just let me know.

Keep Tapping!

Vlad

PS: Forge is easy to update because you don't need the previous builds. Just grab the latest successful snapshot and extract as mentioned. Manalink 3.0 on the other hand does require each incremental update because they have revamped and broadened the scope - considerably - of MicroProse's classic Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers game.

I'll be taking my continuous integration server offline for the next week or so while I move (it's a physical machine in my room). Rest assured, snapshot builds will continue once I have everything back up and running at my new place.

Just chiming in as a person bad with technology that would love to see these come back up. Keep up the great work!

Sorry for the delay. I should have the server back up in the next few days. Moving turned out to be a lot more work than anticipated.

Hey Krazythefox, is your server still uploading snapshot builds? as of late I've only seen it going up to the 5 of September as well as ChrisH's link is dead?

Nevermind >..> lazy me didn't read up through the threads though I'm still curious is ChrisH's link is dead or not or has been for a while now.
