Taking a ridiculously long time to check for updates

I downloaded forge again today as I got a new phone and it is either getting stuck on "checking for updates" or when it actually gives me the option to update, the app crashes.
Galaxy note 3, android 5.0

What version does it say you're on? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Are you connected to the internet when you start it up?

Current version. I had tried uninstall/reinstall and nothing. I was looking at other users posts and saw that one of them had it downloaded on their device and SD card so I viewed my SD via Androzip and sure enough I had it on my SD too. So I deleted both of them and redownloaded. Works fine now!
