Forge Multiplayer help

I understand that forge multiplayer is still a work in process, but I'm not having issues with the game crashing after connecting... I'm having trouble connecting to other people.

For me, when I create a server, it gives me the local address, 10.0.0.x:36743, which might be helpful if I was in the same network as the other guy.

When they create a server, they get a proper IP address, 192.xxx.x.xx:36743

In both cases, when we try to connect, we get the connection timed out error from forge.

How do I use what we have to get a proper address to enter? Rather, what format does your server address take when you're able to successfully connect?

Thank you for your help.

Currently that popup only shows local IPs, your friends IP is probably 192.168.*.* which is also local. To get your external IP, use a site like: https://www.whatismyip.com/

Additionally, you may need to make sure your router/firewall is allowing that port to be connected to.

All right, Thanks! In which case, is the proper format (External IP):Port, similar to how it shows up with the local IP?

edit: All right, we've gotten into the lobby. Now, when trying to start a game. "Connection to host was interrupted."

Why. T.T
