Forge now requires Java 8 (or newer). You will not be able to start the game if you are not yet running Java 8.

We have a Discord server for hanging out with Forge devs and other Forge fans. Feel free to jump on in and say hi!

Online Multiplayer is once again functional!

Master 25
Hey look it's a new set release!

Bug fixes
As always, this release of Forge features an assortment of bug fixes and improvements based on user feedback during the previous release run.

Image

Images for the latest sets will be available soon.

Online multiplayer functionality has been restored, but is still a Work in Progress. We do have a dedicated developer actively working on the online multiplayer feature.

At least two cards that have a clause that says "if a card cast this way would be put into a graveyard this turn, exile it instead" (Kess, Dissident Mage and Bosium Strip) will fail to interact correctly in corner cases where another card is allowing you to also cast cards from the graveyard at the same time, but allows you not to exile them. This needs a better implementation of a check that would allow to determine that the card is being cast via a MayPlay effect from a particular source.

There is a known issue with the cost reduction for cards that have color-locked X in their mana cost (e.g. Drain Life, Soul Burn). Cost reduction will not apply correctly to these cards if the amount by which the cost is reduced is greater than the amount of colorless mana in the mana cost specified on the card (e.g. 1 for Drain Life, 2 for Soul Burn). Fixing this issue likely requires rewriting the way announced color-locked X is interpreted and paid (most likely it has to be represented with colorless mana shards but still locked to the colors required by the card).

Currently Improvise is implemented as a "clone" of Convoke keyword, which does not work correctly in corner cases (for example, together with an instance of Convoke or Delve). This is planned to be addressed soon.

Replacement effects that happen when a card moves from zone to zone (e.g. ETB replacement effect of Essence of the Wild; Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet replacement effect for a dying creature) need some rework to allow all of them to work in a rule-exact way without the need for special exclusions and hacks (see ReplacementHandler.java:120).

Several people have noticed that the cards displayed on the battlefield will fail to be displayed when the number of cards on the battlefield increases. Maximizing the human panel can help to re-display the cards.

Some time was spent turning the static ETB triggers into the proper ETB replacement effects they should be, mainly to interact correctly with each other. This work is not yet finished. As a result there is currently some inconsistencies with "Enters the battlefield with counters" (Not incredibly noticeable).

A recent contribution to the code base should fix some of the bugs that people noticed with cloning type abilities. At this time there is one remaining issue that we hope will be addressed in the near future:
Copies of cards that setup Zone Change triggers via addComesIntoPlayCommand and addLeavesPlayCommand will not function correctly.

The Forge archive includes a MANUAL.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Once the Forge archive has been decompressed you should then be able to launch Forge by using the included launcher. Launching Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file in the past caused a java heap space error. Forge's memory requirements have increased over time and the launchers increase the java heap space available to Forge. Currently you can launch Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file without a java heap space error but this is likely to change as we add in more sounds, icons, etc.

- The Mac OS application version -
We haven't been able to distribute the OS X Application version of Forge in sometime. We've recently automated our release tools, and will continue to look in the viability of creating this file now that things are autoamted.

- Online Multiplayer -
For local network play you should only need two systems running Forge. One to host and one to join and play. For remote (over the Internet) play you will need to ensure that the port used (36743 by default) is forwarded to the hosting machine.

id like to report 2 bugs the first is that when using yisan the wonderer bards ability with rings of brighthearth on the field the copy of his ability fizzles and wont let me select a creature to put onto the battlefield.
second is when putting a clone creature under soul foundry doesnt let you use its replacement effect to enter the battlefield as a copy of something.

both of these things worked prior to version 1.6.7

For the first one, I've created:
https://git.cardforge.org/core-develope ... issues/362

I was not able to replicate the second one. I imprinted Clone on Soul Foundry and was able to select a target creature for the Clone when activating Soul Foundry.

I tested that combination too. Here's the effect on the stack:
soul-foundry-jwari-shapeshifter-1.png

And the the card detail, once it is on the field:

ok i just realized i missed some specifics i think its the same issue from rings of brighthearth. i imprinted clever impersonator onto soul foundry with rings of brighthearth on the field activated the soul foundry to make another copy of rings of brighthearth but the copy from the original rings fizzles. with the original activation of soul foundry (clever impersonator imprinted) i copy the soul foundry imprinting jwari shapeshifter on this one. when the copied soul foundry (jwari shapeshifter imprinted) gets activated both the original and copy from rings of brigthearth fizzle

Re: Forge Release 03/20/2018 ver 1.6.8

Postby BigBossJeff » 20 Mar 2018, 20:10

Hi, my forge just doesn't feel like running. It's not the fault of the update, I think. It didn't want to open with the previous version either. I get all the way to "opening main window" before it decides to up and quit.

My account is too new to post the real report because it thinks I'm posting urls. I've been a lurker for some time, though.

Help is much appreciated.

Aeon Chronicler doesn't seem to get exiled with time counters on it, preventing it from drawing me cards while it's there.

Description: [Playing multiplayer via the Internet/port forwarding - between Somerset and Swansea]
Another Bug: online human vs human multiplayer is very very very laggy. We are both within the UK.
Another Bug: The multiplayer chat log also double-posts everything I and the opponent type.

Suggestion: Rephrase the IP window that pops up, as it suggests I share my private IP address, which i guess works for LAN games but not for online multiplayer (public IP needed). maybe

My Forge log is attached. I tried a couple of very laggy human vs human online multiplayer Commander matches; both seemed to crash, though only the first one gave the crash report.

Feature request: Could we have a switch to "disable card art" in the Forge settings dropdown menu? It would probably save on the lag in human vs human online multiplayer games, as well as save me from mum from looking over my shoulder...

While the existing client/server communication is far from optimized, it does not send card art from the server to the client (or vice versa) to my knowledge. The issue is that all client actions are sent to the server for processing. Some of these require multiple round trips. Which, like I've indicated, is not optimal. My first step was to restore network play functionality. I'll be working on reducing both the size and frequency of client/server messages in the future.

I believe this is covered by the previous bug I opened: https://git.cardforge.org/core-develope ... issues/362

The copy made by Rings of Brighthearth does indeed fizzle, as that bug report captures. However, the original Soul Foundry activation fully resolves in my testing (see the following screenshots).

BigBossJeff wrote:Hi, my forge just doesn't feel like running. It's not the fault of the update, I think. It didn't want to open with the previous version either. I get all the way to "opening main window" before it decides to up and quit.

My account is too new to post the real report because it thinks I'm posting urls. I've been a lurker for some time, though.

Help is much appreciated.
Do you by chance have any saved quest data? It looks like you're running on Windows. AFAIK, by default, these files should be under <your application data directory>/Forge/quest/ (usually, C:/Users/<your username>/Application Data/Roaming/Forge/quest). Try moving this data to a different location and restarting Forge.

Appeared to work fine in my testing, see the attached screenshots. Note, you do have to specifically select to suspend Aeon Chronicler.
