How do I play Forge online?

Postby Tyggus » 15 Apr 2018, 16:04

What address do I give my friend to connect to my server over the internet? Is it my public IP (i.e. 43.153.##.###)? My public IP followed by the port the game says (43.153.##.###:36743)? Is it my DNS hostname (cpe-43-153-##-###.kya.res.rr.c0m)? Or is it the DNS hostname followed by the port (cpe-43-153-##-###.kya.res.rr.c0m:36743)?

I've tried all of the above and nothing works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It would be your public IP. Some other things that may trip you up are firewalls/routers blocking the port of the server.

Yeah, I figured. In Windows 10, do you have to enable just the Forge app to be accessible publicly, or do you have to enable Java to be accessible publicly, or both Java and Forge?

Also, on your router settings, you just have to forward port 36743, correct?

I had to disable Windows Firewall Defender entirely, then it worked. I don't feel completely safe doing that but whatever. Do you have any suggestions to make it safer? I'm running Windows 10.

Also, when we are playing online, it seems the game freezes (or loses continuity; i.e. I play Tower Above on Zada, Hedron Grinder and everything is ok until I run out of target defenders to select; or I have 4 Biovisionary on the battlefield at end step and both mine and my opponent's screens say "Waiting for opponent"). I know these cards work fine offline, so just wanted to report that "bug(?)," I guess.

Anyway, thanks for your response. Greatly appreciated!

You shouldn't need to disable it. Just open up that port in the Windows Defender Firewall (you have to create a new rule to open the port): 36743
