A significant improvement was made to how we cache images which should improve memory usage

Forge now requires Java 8 (or newer). You will not be able to start the game if you are not yet running Java 8.

We have a Discord server for hanging out with Forge devs and other Forge fans. Feel free to jump on in and say hi!

Online Multiplayer is once again functional!

Set Selection Randomizer
There's a new randomizer available when Forge asks you to choose sets. Given a few options, it will pick out a selection of random sets for use in either the deck editor or in quest mode.

Bug fixes
As always, this release of Forge features an assortment of bug fixes and improvements based on user feedback during the previous release run.

Known issues are here: https://git.cardforge.org/core-developers/forge/issues

Feel free to report your own there if you have any.

The Forge archive includes a MANUAL.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Once the Forge archive has been decompressed you should then be able to launch Forge by using the included launcher. Launching Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file in the past caused a java heap space error. Forge's memory requirements have increased over time and the launchers increase the java heap space available to Forge. Currently you can launch Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file without a java heap space error but this is likely to change as we add in more sounds, icons, etc.

- The Mac OS application version -
We haven't been able to distribute the OS X Application version of Forge in sometime. We've recently automated our release tools, and will continue to look in the viability of creating this file now that things are autoamted.

- Online Multiplayer -
For local network play you should only need two systems running Forge. One to host and one to join and play. For remote (over the Internet) play you will need to ensure that the port used (36743 by default) is forwarded to the hosting machine.

Re: Forge Release 03/10/2019 ver 1.6.22

Postby Legendario3 » 11 Mar 2019, 15:37

Greetings and thanks for update. Here is a series of failures that I have found:

1) The AI refuses to play In Oketra's Name if there is no zombie in the field, although the card can strengthen other types of creatures. This happens in all circumstances, even in those where the + 1 / + 1 of the card can give the victory. The AI should, by default, play it in any situation where it could give you an advantage.

2) The AI refuses to play Disposal Mummy if there are no cards in the opponent's graveyard. This happens in all circumstances, even when you need a blocker to avoid losing. IA You should, by default, play it in any situation, like a normal creature.

3) The AI uses the Fan Bearer ability at the beginning of each turn, without considering other cards that it could play or if it can attack, which can result in unnecessary expense. You should activate it in the opponent's pre-combat phase to tap some powerful creature and avoid the attack, or use it in your turn to clear the path of possible blockers.

4) The AI does not play, under any circumstances, the Fling card; although this can give you the victory. He should have a criterion to know which creature to sacrifice to destroy the strongest of the opponent, or to know which sacrificed creature could reduce his life to 0.

5) The AI does not recognize that the enchanted land with Gift of Paradise can produce two manas of any color; and is limited to using the land in a current way.

6) The AI does not play well the Binding Mummy card, because when the action is triggered more than once, it chooses redundant targets (as when there are two copies of this card in play). The AI should be able to calculate when playing a zombie and tap an opponent creature has to give it an advantage.

7) The AI does not play correctly the cards that handle the counters -1 / -1. For example: Soulstinger, Crocodile of the Crossing, Ornery Kudu. He seems not to play it since he can not decide where to put the counters, but by default he could put it on himself, which would be better than not playing it, or use the same reasoning that is given in Lethal Sting (which plays quite well). Another case would be Torment of Venom, which can not play; but that could be played just like Splendid Agony (which plays quite well).

8) The AI does not recognize when using "Exert" could give it the victory. It would be best if you recognized the state of the creature after the "Exert" as if it were an enhancement spell or combat trick. For example: If Exert to creature A, creature A gains flight; then it can not be blocked and will reduce the opponent's life to 0; then do Exert in A.

Cool new update so far.

I have made my own custom sounds for Forge, If you would like to use them. Ironically, I had just posted a link in the previous release's thread. I can repost here if you would like Forge to have it's own unique sounds instead of the kind of generic sounds from FreeSound.org ;)

In quest mode, why Innistrad isn't in the "travel" list?

Those are quest worlds developed by people. I guess noone has developed one by Innistrad.

Not sure if this should be posted here or in 'AI improvement'. Tin Street Dodger can easily win this game by paying one red mana, but refuses to attack.

Stalking Vengeance can also win this game easily by attacking with a 1/1 creature, letting it die, but refuses to do so.

Still having a lot of bugs around scrying. Happens when I mulligan and choose 'Scry'. The screen goes dark, says 'opponent waiting' and I can only get out of that screen by hitting 'escape'. I don't get a chance to scry but the game continues. It is doing this about 50% of the time, even with cards that allow Scry options. I have no way to report a bug because there is nothing in the log.
