Questions about the New Quest Mode

I just downloaded the latest version of Forge and was wondering what was the difference between realistic and fantasy? Is there any way to bring over my quest deck from the last version of forge or any of the cards I had earned? Also, while I've been using forge for a while I never understood the Quest Length choice. Does that just mean you start at a harder difficulty? Thanks for any answers =)

Yes, just copying your questdata file from your previous forge install (found in the /res/quest subfolder) should allow you to continue your previous quest with all its cards (this would only be the "realistic" mode, however).

Fantasy adds some RPG elements to quest mode, there's a "Bazaar" option which allows you to buy certain upgrades, there's also different quest assignments that can be played.
A fantasy quest has the player start out with 15 life, this number can be upgraded in the Bazaar.
Realistic is just the same thing quest mode has always been in previous versions.

Perhaps we should call the old quest mode "Normal" or something like that to be more clear. I'll admit, I had no idea what the difference was until reading this.

And maybe a text blurb under each one, like:

Normal
A good ole' quest

Fantasy
Adds RPG elements to the quest

or a variation.

Hmm, you're probably right. Actually just having "Normal" and "Fantasy" might do the trick already.

I'm still trying to figure out the difference between easy, normal, and hard. In hard mode do you just get less money and cards? I was also wondering if you guys have a picture for the plant wall token. That'd be awesome! Thanks for answering my questions.

The New Game window has a How to Play menu which in turn displays some basic game related information. I copied this small amount of data for you:

4. In Quest Mode you start out with 275 cards, 200 are Basic Lands. As you complete matches in your quest you will win more cards. In easy mode you get more cards after every game, whether you win or lose. Your goal is to become world champion. Once you reach the end of your quest you can continue to play additional matches and win even more cards or you can start a new quest at anytime.

At the Quest Options screen you will be given a choice of four different difficulty levels. These difficulty levels control:

1) the length of the quest in matches,
2) the hardness of the AI deck that you will face as an opponent,
3) the number of wins or loses needed to get more cards,
4) the number of wins needed to advance a player to the next rank.
`
Dennis left a link where people can download the missing picture for the plant wall token and other tokens used by quest mode. They are copyrighted and we do not want to package them with the forge archive.

If someone with artistic talents were able to generate some PD versions of this copyrighted art and donate it to our project ... that would make things easier on everyone.

How about using "Original" rather than "Normal". The "Fantasy" term is catchy and I like it. :)

Sounds good guys :)
I must admit, I kind of stole the term "realistic" from this classic game called Jagged Alliance 2, it had some setting with two options: Realistic and Sci Fi (the latter setting would include fictitious guns and some alien invasion).

And RobberBaron, yes grab the Plant / Wolf token images here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?45imznutnjk

Then just extract it to your /res/pics folder (it should put all images in the icons and tokens subfolders).
If all went well, the in-game images of the wolf and plant should show up, and the Plant Shop should look something like this (check screenshot).

Easy, Medium, Hard and Very Hard are different only with regard to starting card pool, and I think it takes more games to earn cards (in easy/medium, you get a booster every game, hard/very hard it's every other game). As it turns out, Easy starts out with 45 commons, 20 uncommons and 10 rares, everything else 40 commons, 15 uncommons and 10 rares.

Quest length really doesn't matter, in easy mode you reach ranks much quicker and ranks were meant to show progress of the game (a quest would be "finished" after 10 games on easy). But people like to play long ass campaigns of 100+ games, so it really doesn't mean anything (a quest should be as long as you want it to be!)

I have started a new fantasy mode quest. I like my initial card pool and went UW. I have on several games put the Transcendent Master into play and leveled up like a mad man. I like to also equip it with the Vulshok Battlegear if I can. The auras are also nice but this can be overkill.

I have played only 3 matches so far, 1 win and 2 losses. I went to the Bazaar initially and purchased the extra life. If I had to do it over I think I would get a plant wall or a wolf pet rather than the +1 life boost.

I am considering selling a few cards in order to come up with enough credits to buy one of these two critters. Which one of the two do people buy first? The wolf or the plant?

I think that Dennis said that we have to play/win 25 matches before the play a special quest button becomes active. I will have to wait.

My current deck minus the lands:

It's actually wins... do you guys think I should change it to matches played?

The reason I set it to 25 wins, is because these Quest matches are very challenging, and the player would need a decent deck coupled with some good upgrades. They're much more challenging than the regular matches, because the computer only has 20 life and doesn't start out with creatures in those.

I think that 25 wins is probably a good requirement, provides incentive to get people to play longer quests, I choose to go with the easiest difficulty setting and this brings in a fresh pack of cards after each match. My deck will improve with time.
