Way to filter decks against historic / current legality?
by verdealex79 » 18 Jul 2019, 11:18
Hey, I noticed a nice section - in the filter, while you are creating decks - to filter the card pool to be legal in whatever current / historic format, so as you can create a deck which would be legal in that format in that moment of time.
Is there anything similar to filter "already built decks' list" (for instance, say "Custom user decks" in the constructed section) against a format in a particular moment of time, so you can see only those decks that are legal in that format in that moment of time?
Thank you devs for this gem of software!!!

Could You please tell me how You did that?Hey, I noticed a nice section - in the filter, while you are creating decks - to filter the card pool to be legal in whatever current / historic format, so as you can create a deck which would be legal in that format in that moment of time.
I'm looking for a way to filter cards by let's say Standard from 1999 but I have no idea how.

Note: I'm running 1.6.28-SNAPSHOT-r80, though this should work on 1.6.27 as well.necxelos wrote:Could You please tell me how You did that?Hey, I noticed a nice section - in the filter, while you are creating decks - to filter the card pool to be legal in whatever current / historic format, so as you can create a deck which would be legal in that format in that moment of time.

- Goto Game Settings > Preferences > Advanced Settings
- Check "Load Historic Formats"
- Restart
- Deck Builder (or any of the options that gives the Choose Format dialogue)
- Magnifying Glass next to Catalog
- Add/Edit Filter
- Formats...
When you get the "Choose Formats" dialogue, it should have everything in the history of magic, as well as things like Duels, MTGO, Microprose, you can set filter by old Standard sets, etc...

Thank You very much.
I love that option, even more so because I'm an old-time MtG player who stopped playing around Kamigawa release (extended player back then so Kamigawa was kinda the reason for my divorce with MtG at the time)!
Now I can test formats gradually, year after year as WotC intended, instead of drowning in all the new stuff.
P.S. It seems to me that a lot of great options in Forge are hidden this way or another. It's not the first time I was pointed out in right direction because the option I was looking for wasn't available in places You'd expect it to be. Any idea what's the design reason behind that?
