Theros Beyond Death Prerelease!

"Prerelease" limited mode for latest sets

Bunches of bug fixes,

Continued work on Translations

Forge now requires Java 8 (or newer). You will not be able to start the game if you are not yet running Java 8.

For some reason Oracle hates Forge and version 1.8.0_211 does bad things with Forge for unknown reasons. Downgrade to 202 for a beter time.

https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html

We have a Discord server for hanging out with Forge devs and other Forge fans. Feel free to jump on in and say hi!

Feel free to report your own there if you have any.

The Forge archive includes a MANUAL.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Once the Forge archive has been decompressed you should then be able to launch Forge by using the included launcher. Launching Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file in the past caused a java heap space error. Forge's memory requirements have increased over time and the launchers increase the java heap space available to Forge. Currently you can launch Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file without a java heap space error but this is likely to change as we add in more sounds, icons, etc.

- The Mac OS application version -
We provide separate macOS builds of desktop and mobile (backported) Forge packaged as native Mac applications. Please check the relevant thread for details and download links.

- Online Multiplayer -
For local network play you should only need two systems running Forge. One to host and one to join and play. For remote (over the Internet) play you will need to ensure that the port used (36743 by default) is forwarded to the hosting machine.

How do you add pictures for missing tokens like Food? I've seen where to add pics for regular cards and the names are simple, but tokens have a weird naming scheme like c_0_1_a_pest_mrd. I wouldn't mind doing it myself. I'd even be willing to share whatever I've done to contribute something back.

It seems that new release uses a lot cpu power, and there's some slowdowns during matches against the AI. At least, when I compare it to one of the last snapshot (I:\Forge 1.6.32 SNAPSHOT-r105), that seems to be the case.

Edit: or maybe not.

There's an image auditor in the preferences to see which ones you are missing.

Ok, I did another test and this release do use more CPU... or should I say, sometimes the CPU usage is constant, even after a match. While playing the snapshop, the CPU usage jumps in a match when the AI has to do a decision for example, but after a match, in the menu, the usage is pretty low, even non-existant.

At first, I thought it was because I played too much, but now I know it can happen after maybe 1 or 2 matches.

AFTER a match, while playing the snapshot, the cpu usage for Java is 0%. With this new version, after a match, the CPU usage can rarely reach 20/30%. It happened two or three times for now, but I don't know why it happens though. I wasn't able to identify a cause and to make it happen at will.

Edit: about Theros Beyond Death, I saw in the edition file that some cards are missing. Yes, there's the alternate cards, but there's also some cards, like Grasping Giant or Victory's Envoy.

Edit 2: here's a picture as a proof... Maybe it's because I ragequit some matches. It's possible, after all.

First of all, great work to everyone involved. It can't be easy to get these versions out before full release, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I really appreciate it.

Just wanted to mention that I'm getting some odd issues in this release with cards showing up in the game as being unsupported by Forge. After doing some experimenting and digging around, it seems that the cards affected are mostly ones that have alternate art versions and thus have two separate entries in Forge. Now, I've been using snapshot builds fairly regularly over the last few weeks and I've noticed that some cards have seem to have had "duplicate" versions in Forge in the past but subsequently were removed for whatever reason. So this might be mostly a deckbuilder issue because I have plenty of saved decks from previous versions that when I load up in this version some of the cards are unplayable in the game even though they are showing the correct image and everything.

When I first launch the program, I can scroll through the entire list of THB cards and they all show their normal text. But then if I load up a deck (either in the game or in the deckbuilder) that has certain of these alternate-art duplicate cards, some number of them will show in the (Other) category, and thereafter when I view the card in the list in Forge it shows as non-supported there. The really odd thing is that if I manually delete the cards and then add them from the list, the deck will work fine for that run, but as soon as I come back into Forge it seems to get thrown out of whack again. When I view the deck file in Notepad, there doesn't seem to be any change in the way the cards are annotated (it shows the card name with a pipe and a number afterward but it doesn't seem to be a different number or format than it was before I "fixed" it in the editor.)

If this is just an anomaly related to the fact that I was building decks in snapshot builds and I just need to rebuild them from scratch, that's fine. I just wonder if there might be something else going on under the hood that might be causing an issue because I wasn't getting these problems until this full release version. As far as I can tell this is the first time Forge has included separate card entries for alternate art for normal non-land cards, so I thought I'd mention it in case there's some odd issue going on related to that.

EDIT: I've done some more tinkering and it looks like this might be related somehow to what the previous poster mentioned about the Editions file; it looks like this problem is related to using the second (alternate art) versions of cards that don't have entries in the Edition file for Theros: Beyond Death. When I add these cards manually to the Editions file, the decks load and play just fine. What strikes me as odd, though, is that cards that don't have this problem (Uro, for example, which as far as I can remember has always had two versions appearing in the list) also don't have entries in the Editions file. I don't know what exactly is going on under the hood to generate the card list in Forge, but I do know that adding these secondary cards into the editions file manually did resolve the issue I was getting with unsupported cards.

Hi, I'm a new forger, and really enjoying the fruits of this project. Just wanted to let you know how much all this effort is appreciated. Congrats on this latest release, looking forward to trying some limited practice offline.

PS, is there anyway to edit the AI decks in sealed to be harder versions I've come across? I can edit the ai-1.dck file in the sealed decks / mygame directory (with a deck list I've created in the editor), but when I come to play a match, the deck resets to the default ai one, and the ai-1.dck file gets over written with the original deck.

cheers in advance

You can do that as long isn't forge is running and holding onto the deck file

When I open the game I get the screen which says checking for updates.

Where the buttons to download or not to download appear... But they are off the bottom of the screen and you can't press anything.

Never like this before

I don't mind reinstalling a prior release but I do worry about losing my decks (is that a concern?)

Forge decks are just text files that are stored by default in your general Windows user directories, so they're not tied to any specific Forge program or installation. So I don't think you'd have to worry about losing them by installing an old version.

Nessian Wanderer triggered ability is a may one but it seems there is no way to refuse to take a card when there is a land in the three cards.

Cool, thanks. This is for Android, if that makes a difference.
