The Forge archive includes a MANUAL.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Once the Forge archive has been decompressed you should then be able to launch Forge by using the included launcher. Launching Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file in the past caused a java heap space error. Forge's memory requirements have increased over time and the launchers increase the java heap space available to Forge. Currently you can launch Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file without a java heap space error but this is likely to change as we add in more sounds, icons, etc.

- The Mac OS application version -
We provide separate macOS builds of desktop and mobile (backported) Forge packaged as native Mac applications. Please check the relevant thread for details and download links.


- Online Multiplayer -
For local network play you should only need two systems running Forge. One to host and one to join and play. For remote (over the Internet) play you will need to ensure that the port used (36743 by default) is forwarded to the hosting machine.

Why was the font in forge changed? Sorry, but it's worse. Harder to read. Is there any way to change it back or choose a different font? I see nothing under graphic options.

None of the ELD cards are showing up now in sealed deck. They were all there in the last version. Now they are blank. I checked the paths, and i have an ELD folder with all the cards in them. Any ideas why they suddenly disappeared? Did they get renamed in this new release of forge?

Lapsa, the UI is a bit funky for that card. Click the first color you want to choose, then CTRL+click (on my Mac I had to command+click) the second color. Hope that works for you!

Here are the names for the THB tokens. In your pics > tokens folder you should use these names with the appropriate extension. For example, r_1_1_satyr_noblock.jpg

I think this is the place to post this? I've been away from using this for a while but just downloaded the new version and it seems that the card 'Tablet of the Guilds' crashes the game when played. I submitted the a report via the in-program thing though don't know if that actually works.

Lapsa, the UI is a bit funky for that card. Click the first color you want to choose, then CTRL+click (on my Mac I had to command+click) the second color. Hope that works for you!

I don't even get that menu - it just crashes instantly; previous versions had the menu.

Like I said I submitted a bug-report via the in-game GUI but I don't know where those reports are spirited off to. If I'm the only one getting this error its possible it was a botched install. I'll try re-downloading!

Why is Embereth Shieldbreaker now blank? The card is in the ELD folder with all the other cards. It is named 'Eldereth Shieldbreaker.full.jpg'. Is this not correct? A lot of ELD images are now broken. (order of midnight, rosethrone acolyte) Example below of 'merchant of the vale'. Last release, fine, new release, no image. This is happening on a lot of cards.

Not a dev, but I noticed this too and here's what's happening. Several of the recent sets have had alternate art variants for cards which, prior to this release, Forge didn't utilize. In the case that there are multiple images, however, the primary art has a "1" after the card name in the filename (the second "2", etc.)

As far as I can tell the affected groups are promo pack cards, the PWs from WAR with variant art in the Japanese release, the Eldraine showcase and expanded art cards, and THB constellation and expanded art cards. Renaming the files (just pop a "1" in before the ".full") clears this up, just remember to add the "2" for the alternate images if you feel like adding those.
