Some pics don't load
by GioRMZ » 14 Apr 2020, 23:13
I have this issue for WAR planeswalkers, ELD showcase and borderless and THB constellations and borderless.
I have the card images as regular under "cardname.full" in their proper folder (WAR, ELD, THB), they just don't load. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thank you

Hi,
yes, you need to define card art 1 and 2 and so on, for example same as with Fallen Empires multi-art cards.
So: search for filenames containing a "2" before ".full.jpg", e.g. "Karn, the Great Creator2.full.jpg".
Now, just rename "Karn, the Great Creator.full.jpg", so that it looks like this in your setfolder:
"Karn, the Great Creator1.full.jpg"
"Karn, the Great Creator2.full.jpg"
That should take care of these sets.
K.
PS: I'm guessing you launch Forge on Windows, from the .exe, not the .jar file? .exe has an additional fix as well, launching the .jar file needs to have this added to the command sequence:
-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

Hm, just made a fresh install with latest main release and it's working as it shouldkubiac470 wrote:I have got the same problem. The name is ok...and the images don t load : (WAR, ELD, THB) version 1.6.34
Make sure the path is correct, once more. This is the path forward, starting from your user folder:
Are all alternate card arts missing?
Can you maybe post a screenshot of your WAR folder path, including a renamed .jpg, like the one I did and can you confirm that you start from Forge.exe?
Not the .jar-file? Not using a quicklaunch icon from your taskbar which is linked to a .bat or the .jar?
If everything still checks out, maybe upload your Forge.log after witnessing the failed alt art display as well, please.
It's located here:
C:\Users\<YOU>\AppData\Roaming\Forge\Forge.log
Fingers crossed! And please confirm if you got it fixed, thanks!

For the cards' path is ok
I never have any problem before
I use gatherer extractor for the pics
My log :

Ok, no luck with the .log..
(Would've surprised me a bit, actually)
Now, if you are sure everything is as it should be, try to exchange an example file with a fresh download, maybe check if changing file formats does improve things (e.g. try a download from scryfall they have both .jpgs and .pngs)
Reason:
A user encountered this as well with one of his cards. Drove us both out of ideas quickly.
I still haven't figured it out yet, but somehow his, perfectly displaying .jpg-file of that card (when viewed in another program) had either some bit level corruption (where it hurts most I guess) or maybe the jpg compression method used was somehow irritating for the java libraries responsible for displaying image files in Forge.
If that fails too I need more info on your file structure/screenshots and/or Forge/image files to maybe pinpoint the problem further.

Oh, I forgot to mention to always take each sets edition .txt-file as reference for correct filenames, I never used Gatherer Extractor before, but you may have to verify/rename some filenames, maybe?
Those .txt-files are as always in /res/editions in your Forge game folder.

Thanks now it s ok if I use the download pics of the forge.
So it is not compatible with gatherer extractor anymore.
Thanks a lot !

You're welcome
Glad you found the problem!
I might need to check out the Extractor myself to know what goes wrong where.
Maybe it's just the Unicode change? For example, if you check the WAR editions .txt-file, at the end, there are "star" characters used, for the alternate art.
Forge on Windows needed a fix (wasn't necessary e.g. on Linux/Mac iirc) to be able to read those Unicode stars.
Unicode support is present for Windows Forge since 1.6.33, when starting from Forge.exe.
Happy Forging!
