Clean a DVD or CD with furniture polish

This is very off topic but basically we are all computer guys who use a ton of CD's and DVD's. I used to work at a videogame shop like GameStop and we cleaned everything with non-wax furniture polish. It sounds a little weird but it cleaned the dics very well. The polish that I'm currently using is from the $1 store and it works great.

Just a random tip.
