possible to use old card frame for all cards?

Postby jfirestorm » 21 Oct 2020, 00:20

Curious if there's a way to use the old original card frame with modern/recent cards for a nostalgic feel. I love old school magic, but want to do drafts with newer cards but the new card frames just turn me off.

Just as an example, I saw this old school looking Thoughtseize and thought it'd be cool if I could make old-school versions of cards in Forge.

You can download, create, or modify your own images and use them in Forge by removing or renaming-to-disable the default image and then naming your custom image exactly the same as the image the game originally used. (And the image needs to be in .jpg format or there is the danger of the program ignoring it and downloading the default image again.)

So if you know how to use a program like Paint, GIMP, or Photoshop, you could take old magic card frames and put the images and text from new cards into them. Kind of time consuming, but if you really want it and it really makes you enjoy the game more, you could do it.

Forge is not set up to automatically do this sort of thing, because it uses card images as a whole. It does not for example load up a frame, a picture, and a text block and combine them when it renders a card. It just loads up an image of the entire card.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
