Forge optimization : too many tokens

Postby nazerty » 16 Jul 2024, 09:05

Hello,
I would like to know if their is a way to make the game faster when creating a lot of tokens. I have been messing around with Mondark, Glory Dominus and Vesuvan Duplimancy but i often get stuck because you can easily create over 2000 tokens at once. When you reach 150 creaturs it already take about 1 second to create a new one. Is their a way to make it faster by not showing all the tokens or something like that ?

Forge is an amazing program. But it is constantly changing with new cards being added and sometimes with the rules of Magic the Gathering being changed slightly. So the program is not optimized real great. It uses lots of processing power and lots of memory. The longer you play in one game session, the slower and slower it gets. Eventually it will freeze, or will become so slow you cannot stand it. But if you exit the program and load it up again, it will be as fast as ever. The game tends to really slow down late in the game if there is a big defensive stalemate where both players have most of their cards on the field rather than in the libraries and graveyards.

But it is an awesome game! Probably my favorite video game.

With your situation, I would say much of your lag is the AI opponent thinking about how to play against each of these tokens, rather than just the computer spending effort to render them on the screen. Like the AI opponent might need to think about whether or not to activate an instant or ability in response to each new token you generate.

So my answer is probably not what you want to hear, but I would suggest that you should avoid playing decks that create 2000 tokens and don't give the AI a deck to play that creates 2000 tokens. Figure out what your system will handle and modify your card mix to handle that. Like if your computer easily handles having 50 tokens on the field, then only use decks that create less than 50 tokens.

As far as I know, there's no built-in function to significantly speed up token creation when dealing with large numbers in Magic: The Gathering. The game's interface is designed to handle a reasonable number of creatures on the battlefield, but isn't optimized for thousands of tokens.
