Forge and cards in multiple sets...
by Neskit » 04 Sep 2011, 02:44
Heya all,
I was wondering how does forge choose which set to pick a card from if that card is in multiple sets? Is each card a different "object" from its brothers in different sets?
Thanks,
Tim

It's the same Card object, just has different SetInfo (Rarity and Picture). For drafts the SetInfo is grabbed for that particular Set. Otherwise, it's generally chosen randomly.

Cards from different sets are different objects. The one that meets filter criteria is picked. There are also two lists of such cards: one is that keeps all card duplicates from all editions, while other contains uniques only. Depending on the situation (be it a deckeditor or draft) an approrpiate collection is used as source.friarsol wrote:It's the same Card object, just has different SetInfo (Rarity and Picture). So in quest mode can any version of a card appear? And will it have the correct matching picture?
If this is the case, is there a way to add a set to be picked (i.e the from the vaults with matching picture)?
Been using Forge for a while now and love, but am now interested in tweaking it a little for my own benefit.

At the beginning of the quest game only unique cards are randonly selected, that is cards from their latest editon.
When you open the shop interface, again only the newest editions are present.
Only when you receive random rewards (in form of boosters, 1 random rare that results from lucky coin toss, 10 rares for every 80 wins) some older versions may appear.
So you cannot pick the set, but if you need to replace the picture, then it's possible... at least for now.

There is a bit of randomness involved when you're playing, though. If there are multiple printings of a particular card, the computer will randomly select the image of that particular card to be displayed while it's in your hand or in play. Example: Counterspell. You won't always see the Duel Decks: Jace vs. Chandra printing of that one when you're playing a match against the computer. Sometimes, it'll be Mercadian Masques or Revised.

I'm trying to remove that randomness: if you added a cards from MMQ is should be always like that, and never appear from other sets. For now cardNames in decks are saved together with sets, there'll be separate entries for cards from each set.timmermac wrote:There is a bit of randomness involved when you're playing, though. If you want to add a card from a specific set into your deck, just apply a set filter - it started working in 10269.

What about in Quest mode? The cards that you get tend to be rather random... Has there been a change made that allows one to get cards from a specific set now?

no, in quest mode cards being from random sets is by design. You just cannot win a rare from a certain set, all you can do is choose a format for prize booster for now

Max, what does that exactly means?Max mtg wrote:You just cannot win a rare from a certain set, all you can do is choose a format for prize booster for now
edit: nvm, didn't see the new beta release. (Player can choose which booster to receive in the course of quest: containing only T2 cards, Extanded or Legacy (the way it was before).
