Is it possible to have any card as a reward in Quest mode?

Postby Askyn » 04 Dec 2011, 23:55

The topic says it pretty much.

Is it possible in quest mode to be able to get any card that is in Forge?

Specifically, I'm looking forward to trying to get a Lhurgoyfu in quest mode, I based a deck around it way back when and enjoyed it a lot.

And if it is possible, which reward option should I select to try and increase the chances of my getting it as a reward? ( ie, vintage, legacy ... etc.)

Thank you very much.

Yes. It is possible to get any card that's in the game. Your best bet is to go for Legacy or Vintage packs. Also, the card shop does sell booster packs, which means it's possible to get a pack of Ice Age, 5th Edition, or 8th Edition and pull a Lhurgoyf out of that. It's also possible to see a Lhurgoyf in the card shop as a single. You might even get it as a random rare. However... In all of my time playing quest mode in Forge, and that spans a period of about a year and a half now, I've seen one of my favorite bits of flavor text a maximum of 3 times. See the stuff in the spoiler tags for a way to increase your chances of getting a 'goyf after a match.

I'm putting this here because I get grumbled at a bit when I mention it. *shrug* | Open
It's possible to modify your quest.preferences file to increase how frequently you get a booster after matches. You can also increase the number of credits you start with and the number of cards you start with. I'm including what my preferences file looks like to give you a bit of a starting point.

difficultyString=Easy,Normal,Hard,Very Hard
# Num of Wins for each Difficulty to gain a Booster, Rank, Duel vs Tougher AI Decks
winsForBooster=1,1,1,1
winsForRankIncrease=250,250,250,250
winsForMediumAI=240,240,240,240
winsForHardAI=420,420,420,420
winsForVeryHardAI=540,540,540,540
# When starting a quest this is how much of each type you'll start with. Plus your starting Credits.
startingBasicLand=20 If you want more cards to start, increase this
startingSnowBasicLand=5 see above italicized comment
startingCommons=100,100,100,100 You can get more cards in your starting pool here
startingUncommons=20,20,20,20 You can get more slightly better cards in your starting pool here
startingRares=15,15,15,15 Here's where you improve your chances of seeing ol' Hans get told to run to start off
startingCredits=250000000 I want to be able to actually buy stuff in the card shop and the bazaar. There might be a couple of extra 0's here.
# When winning a booster pack, this is what you'll expect to see in a pack.
boosterPackCommon=11
boosterPackUncommon=3
boosterPackRare=1
# Match rewards that are used by the quest system
The numbers below can all be modified to suit your tastes. I don't believe the values here are the original ones. I actually have mine set considerably higher.
matchRewardBase=2000
matchRewardTotalWins=30
matchRewardNoLosses=250
matchRewardPoisonWinBonus=500
matchRewardMilledWinBonus=400
matchRewardAltWinBonus=1000
matchRewardWinOnFirstTurn=15000
matchRewardWinByTurnFive=2500
matchRewardWinByTurnTen=500
matchRewardWinByTurnFifteen=100
matchRewardMullToZero=5000

The italicized text should not be in the preferences file. I just added it in here to show you how I futz with it. I don't think a lot of people actually modify this file. I tend to get a bit of mild grumbling when I mention making changes here.

Just to clarify, does anyone know the difference between chosing standard, vintage, legacy,ect. after the match is won or lost?

It would be kinda nice to know. :mrgreen:

Standard, Extended, Modern, Legacy and Vintage are common magic formats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic:_The ... ED_FORMATS

When generating your "pack" it will grab cards that are legal in whatever format you choose. If you only choose Standard as your Format, you will never end up with a Mox Ruby.

have chance in winning duels. In old shalandar there was a cardshop that let you buy any card in the game exept the dungeon cards (moxes etc). To bad the card shop is 1) too limited and 2) it recycle each duel and you never encounter the same shop again

I disagree, I LOVE that the shop is limited and recycles each match. Most of the fun in quest, for me anyway, is shopping for spells to put in your deck. Giving too many options, (Like ALL of the cards) would be WAY too easy, you'd have your dream deck in no time, and the AI in Forge is too easy to compete with a well constructed deck.

Now, I wouldn't mind if you could perhaps unlock a second shop after 50 games or so, that had all of the cards available for purchase, but ONLY at highly increased prices.

In Shandalar, the way it worked is when you went into town there would be 3-5 cards available to you. If you ran into a certain dungeon you would be given an opportunity to buy cards in gems/cash. But these dungeons were like 5% chance to happen. I much prefer our card shop mechanism to the 3-5 card shop mechanism. Plus if you bought those cards they would just be sold out until the town regenerated cards in X amount of time.
