card picture mirror? torrents?

Postby mark » 29 Dec 2011, 08:12

I installed forge yesterday and downloaded the LQ card pictures, which needed about 6 hours for 400MB or so, which is terribly, terribly slow. Today the same thing with the LQ set pictures...

I am interested in creating a mirror and have a rootserver with 1GBit bandwidth in Germany and a static IP and have some questions before:
  • who ist hosting the cards now?
  • in which country/continent is the currently used server located?
  • what is the current bandwidth?
  • what is the current traffic and load?
  • will WotC be annoyed if I distribute the images?
  • same questions for the HQ images, which seemed to be available once
And if everything fails: we should create a torrent containing the images and the decks posted here. Since yesterday there were 100 new pictures but even with a slow connection it will be much nicer to distribute the base set of 10k cards via torrent and use the update function for the small rest only.

Sorry, I can not help you, but perhaps you can help me: I searched now for half an hour and can not even finde, where to download the LQ pictures with slow speed. I only found a resource from Magic Workstation. Is this the only place to get the pictures from?

Thanks for help

Finally i found it here on the website: http://www.slightlymagic.net/tracker?co ... ails&id=20

A link in the Software description would be cool.

There is an artificial delay between downloaded images. It is intended to reduce the impact we have on the servers where the images come from.

It is sad that most people don't understand bit-torrent better. Otherwise we could have used it to download and share all card pictures. It's just a matter of destination and hash and swapping .torrent file.

It would be nice if forge could include a torrent feature only supporting the card picture and other media that it uses. But I figure that would be to big a feature to deem feasible.
User experience, make or break. MtG drafting is fun.

there is a button in Forge that downloads the images, no need to search somewhere (yes, some documentation in form of a usermanual.pdf + developermanual.pdf for creating cards etc would be nice).

As I have downloaded all images now, I will create and seed a torrent soon (maybe tomorrow), containing LQ card pictures, set pictures, quest images and all WotC+DotP11/12 decks I found here so far.

I invite everyone who already has parts or everything of it, to participate in seeding, after I post the link to the torrent or magnet link.

The Forge wiki has a lot of good info. Anyone can use their CCGH sign in data to access the wiki and add in more info. The devs at this time are being kept busy working on the project itself.

A user guide as a pdf would be great but who ever volunteers to be the author might want to wait until the new UI is finished before they start work. The current UI displayed in version 1.1.8 will soon be out-dated.

Here it is, about 684MB of gamedata; use the following torrent file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yuid52s11jpnmgc
or if your torrent client supports magnet links:
Code: Select all
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:53f15ae8f392e8a9b1e03b44c650a5b506ec89ff&dn=res&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3A80
I won't seed 24/7, but as often and long as I can. If you already have the data and want to participate, use the torrent, then copy your files over into your torrent folder, let your torrent program check the files and then seed what you have.

FYI I am using superseed mode, so it may appear that I have 0% of the data.
