Default Lands
by WompWomp » 29 Jan 2012, 19:23
I'm not sure if there's somewhere this is documented that I can't find or what have you, but what decides which lands Forge chooses as the defaults (for instance the lands it gives you in quest mode)?
I'm also confused by something that happened, and I would appreciate an explanation if someone knows what the story is:
I finally got around to finishing upgrading my card art to higher resolution versions, and one of the ones I was missing was M10.
I made new versions of M10's basic lands as full-arts since I'm looking at them all the time. I couldn't find good sources for some of the lands so, for instance, I replaced two of the forest images with my new versions and figured I could just get rid of the other two for now. I was expecting it to just show those two pieces of art for the forests, but instead some of them started showing up as CHK forests. I was wondering why, in particular, the "default" lands are M10 and why it would pull alternatives if there are only two variations and, more so, why those alternatives would come from CHK of all places? I'm also wondering if there is some way to easily change which lands are the "defaults"?

I don't know so much about the default land selection, but it is possible to acquire different versions of basic land in quest mode. If you futz with certain amounts in quest.preferences, it will allow to buy more boosters, a number of which include a basic land per pack.

I have the same question, but unlike OP my default lands are all Zendikar 'large picture' lands.

As far as I know the Zendikar land are the land images downloaded when not using the set images. Just replace with whichever you want.Xitax wrote:I have the same question, but unlike OP my default lands are all Zendikar 'large picture' lands.
Forge expect to find 4 images for each land so will replace missing ones from one set with ones from another set (randomly as far as I know). If you edit your deck file and stipulate M10 for each of the land lines I think it will limit it to the two you have only. eg:WompWomp wrote:I'm also confused by something that happened, and I would appreciate an explanation if someone knows what the story is: I finally got around to finishing upgrading my card art to higher resolution versions, and one of the ones I was missing was M10.

default sets for lands you start quest with are hardcoded atm. This is made to allow better lands as rewards for something yet-to-be-created in quest.

Thanks, I suppose that explains it. I can always just replace the land images, just wondered.Max mtg wrote:default sets for lands you start quest with are hardcoded atm. This is made to allow better lands as rewards for something yet-to-be-created in quest.

Not quite. In constructed mode the only lands I ever see are lands from the /pics/ZEN folder. There are no other pictures like them anywhere in my Forge folders so it has to be those.moomarc wrote:As far as I know the Zendikar land are the land images downloaded when not using the set images. EDIT: For clarity, I have 8 lands in the /ZEN folder, 1-4 are the big picture lands and 5-8 are the normal ones with the mana symbols. I have a custom set of pics made from the scans available here. Probably not many others have the same setup.
