Eleven New Cards

Postby Chris H. » 31 Jan 2009, 19:40

I thought that the gang might enjoy these 11 new cards. Be the first on your block and all of that.

The originalRarities.zip file includes the common.txt, uncommon.txt and rare.txt files. These files contain all of the cards and have not been play balanced.

The ElevenNewCards.zip file includes updated cards.txt and card-pictures.txt files.

Chris,
Cool, be the first on your block to play with these (I couldn't make the prerelease today)...

In addition to your eleven new creatures, your card-pictures.txt file has twelve duplicated cards (maybe to disguise the new cards? :) ) (note, there are no spaces in the following, but the autocard function recognizes those that are properly capitalized and doesn't display the underscores):

Cloudcrown_Oak.jpg and Cloudcrown_Oak.jpg (no differences that I can see)
    dauthi_marauder.jpg and Dauthi_Marauder.jpg
    duskdale_wurm.jpg and Duskdale_Wurm.jpg
    havenwood_wurm.jpg and Havenwood_Wurm.jpg
    king_cheetah.jpg and King_Cheetah.jpg
Kjeldoran_War_Cry.jpg and kjeldoran_war_cry.jpg (you can never have too many Kjeldoran War Crys [Cries?])
    raging_kavu.jpg and Raging_Kavu.jpg
    soltari_foot_soldier.jpg and Soltari_Foot_Soldier.jpg
    tangle_spider.jpg and Tangle_Spider.jpg
    thalakos_sentry.jpg and Thalakos_Sentry.jpg
    vindicate.jpg and vindicate.jpg
    Warriors_Honor.jpg and warriors_honor.jpg

BTW, I had trouble saving the last two sets of your originalRarities files. I had to open the files and paste the contents into the existing files instead of just saving them. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Since I'm already highjacking your topic (sorry about that), where do you find the card pictures URL? I generally want to replace the basic land Unhinged pictures with the Unglued pictures, and I have to save them to my hard drive manually. I'm also looking to try adding some cards and would like to properly update the card-pictures.txt file.

Awesome Chris! I actually started adding a few of these cards already (I won't name them just yet).

Great. A few really new cards to help pick up the level of interest.

You will find these 11 cards at the top of the cards.txt file again. It should be easy to copy and paste them into the next update. \:D/

I just took a look and found the duplicated cards in the card-pictures.txt file. I think that Forge is using the first entry to download the jpg. When Forge comes to the second occurrence of the url the jpg is found to already exist and is ignored. Thanks for pointing this out. Can you post this finding over on the bug board?

The problem that you are having with the originalRarities files may not be your fault. As more cards are added to Forge we find that the data files are becoming more prone to mistakes being made. Rob's and Rares (upcoming) card editors will help to reduce the number of errors. I hope that Rares card editor will be written in java.

If you are looking for different variants for the land jpgs you could try searching this site:

I has been a week since I left the attachment with the 11 new cards. It looks like the names of the cards in the new card set will now highlight. I think it is now time to list the names of the 11 new cards.

Aven Squire
Canyon Minotaur
Darklit Gargoyle
Dreadwing
Esper Cormorants
Fusion Elemental
Kranioceros
Noble Hierarch
Thornling
Valiant Guard
Vectis Agents

I see that I slightly miss-spelled the keyword. #-o

Double strike should be replaced with the correct keyword "Double Strike"

Actually, "Double Strike" is the misspelling, in real Magic. :P
