But are these (missing) HQ jpgs you mentioned copyrighted ? They seem to be non-WotC, since I didn't find them on magiccards.info.
There appears to be several people using computer scanners to generate high quality - high resolution jpgs of the cards and the tokens that WotC has released.

The archive includes a Voja token for example. The jpg measures 480 x 680 pixels. While looking at the full sized jpg for this card I can clearly see the copyright at the bottom.

Granted, it would be nice if we could find a url for these missing tokens. I also checked the following site, they have some tokens but do not have the ones that you are missing:

I've looked around on these forms for the 32 meg token zip file, and found it but the download link seems to be dead :(
Is there somewhere else I can download this file?

I found an old rtf file with some messages referencing the MWS forum. This may be where I found the file. It is possible that the archive has been updated or is being updated at this time. I would email you the file but 32 MB is far too large for me. I just happen to be one of those hold outs that are still using a dial up connection. :-({|=

Give me a little time and I will try to whip up a generic token appropriately labeled for these tokens. This will at least fill the hole while we see how things turn out with the 32 meg token zip file.

This file is primarily for Dennis. I don't mind if others download and comment.

This archive includes hand-crafted generic tokens appropriately labeled for the missing 13 tokens. They should be no larger than 8 KB apiece. I did not include and public domain artwork on these token cards. They should display in the game OK.

Someday, someone might find url's for these missing cards and we can then replace these generic tokens.

The problem is how to translate a token's attributes like type, power, toughness into a filename. GuiDiplayUtil.getCardPicture() could convert a token made by Dragon Roost into a filename like Dragon_5_5.jpg

Another approach is just to have a lookup table in GuiDiplayUtil.getCardPicture().

Code: Select all
if(token is dragon and token is 5/5)
  return dragon_5_5.jpg
(GuiDiplayUtil.getCardPicture(), I think this is what the method is named, if not, something similar.)

You could always name each token in the code, like name the tokens made by The Hive as "Insect 10th" and then the filename would be Insect_10th.jpg

Or as a variation you could have a "secret name" like add the variable "tokenName" to Card and have GuiDiplayUtil.getCardPicture() get that name.

Rob had the idea of naming them like this: {color} {p/t} {creature type}.
So, you could have R 5 5 Dragon, which would translate to r_5_5_dragon.jpg
Or G 2 2 Bear, g_2_2_bear.jpg.

Thanks Chris :) I'll download them.

Your welcome, Dennis. :)

I noticed that the HQ archive (with 189 tokens!) includes a specific Llanowar Elves token for the token created by the Llanowar Mentor. I not sure how you want to handle this. If you want more generic type tokens as placeholders, let me know and I can produce a few more of them.

Hmm, I'm not sure either. I think I will keep the cards that specifically say "put a token named x into play" the same. So for cards like Cloudseeder, Llanowar Mentor, Goldmeadow Lookout, I think I'll just stick to the naming convention and use the same picture as the card itself (I will however add the text "Token" in the text field, so it's easy to see that it's a token).

There are also some other cards that specifically state the name of the token. Currently in MTGForge those are: Kelp (Wall of Kelp), Voja (Tolsimir Wolfblood) and Marit Lage (Dark Depths). I will keep those names the same, so the jpegs for those cards would just be kelp.jpg, voja.jpg and marit_lage.jpg.

I realized something else, for the tokens that are on magiccards.info, they probably won't work for download links in card-pictures.txt, since they're way too large, and I haven't really figured out how to resize them through MTGForge... I guess we can either release the next version of MTGForge with your legal token substitutes (they look great by the way!) or leave everything up to the user.

Were all of the tokens that you listed found on magiccards.info?

r_1_1_gobling.jpg
w_1_1_kithkin_soldier.jpg
b_1_1_faerie_rogue.jpg

marit_lage.jpg
I found some tokens located on:

http://www.magickartenmarkt.de/index.php?mainPage=browseCategory&idCategory=1

that are slightly larger than the jpgs from WotC. If you visit this site you can select tokens from a pull down menu and pricing info and a jpg will be displayed. I had to direct the card-pictures.txt file to this site for several cards. The armored_griffin.jpg is an example.

You should be able to find a url for some of these tokens on the site above. The long list of tokens that you said had jpgs, are all of them in need of a smaller token from the site that I named?

I can always create a few more of the legal token substitutes where they are needed. I just need to know which tokens to create.

Yes exactly, that entire list is available on magiccards.info, but these pictures are too big. Downloading them and resizing them with photoshop is a possibility (which is what I did with my local version), but I can't have the game resize them. And it would cause legal issues I suppose if we ship resized versions of these tokens with the release of MTGForge.
I haven't checked out the size of the pictures on magickartenmarkt yet, if they are only slightly larger, we can use those. But the ones on magiccards.info are definitely too big.

EDIT: Ahhh, I get it now. You've already used some of the images from that website, I see they have a slightly higher resolution. So yes, we can definitely use some of the tokens from magickartenmarkt :)

I did not bother to check to see if this download would go to completion, but I clicked on the link and the download started. It does not appear to be dead.

Ah yep, I managed to download them last night as well, not sure why it wasn't working at first :)
Awesome tokens, very high quality, I'm using most of those (resized) for my local version on MTGForge.

By the way, these tokens I could get from magickartenmarkt, I'll just show the top of my card-pictures.txt:

b_1_1_faerie_rogue.jpg http://www.magickartenmarkt.de/img/card ... _token.jpg
w_4_4_angel.jpg http://www.magickartenmarkt.de/img/card ... _token.jpg

Ah, excellent. Thank you.

I will concentrate on creating generic tokens just for the other tokens on your list.

BTW: there are two different white 4/4 angel tokens. Make sure you get the conflux one:

I have been busy checking for more tokens from http://www.magickartenmarkt.de

There is a lot of tokens for you to look at and I hope some of these will fill a hole. It looks like I need to create tokens for:

g_2_2_wolf.jpg
g_1_1_elf_warrior.jpg
c_1_1_spirit.jpg
w_1_1_kithkin_soldier.jpg
voja.jpg
kelp.jpg

Check the list below and let me now if you need generic tokens for any of the following:

EDIT:

List looked terrible and unreadable, I deleted it.

I will provide this list to you as a txt file attachment.
