How to Play Momir Basic with MWS

Postby Huggybaby » 30 May 2009, 19:35

Planeswlk figured it out years ago. Get the latest files from his site.
For more, see here or here.

The readme:
Momir Advanced (All T1 sets) Creature Selection Lists
12-22-2006
PLC update 3-5-07
Everything newer up thru ARB 5-11-09

Engineered by Planeswlk, original datasheet idea - brevinwannabe
Card data courtesy Magic Workstation HTML export feature, with some programmatical massaging to number each row (thanks to QBasic!)
[Card data © Wizards of the Coast]
Additional thanks to SquallLeonheart_ITA and discussion participants on MWS forum (http://www.magi-soft.com/forum/) under Game Databases: "Momir Basic!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This collection of HTML files is for the easy facilitation of finding and creating random creature tokens used in the Momir Basic (Advanced) free online-MTG variant.
These lists include every creature printed except un-sets and ante cards, broken up by total mana cost. This is different from the MTGO version, as MTGO is restricted to its own available virtual printings.

Current version of this file (updated as new expansions come out) will base from my website: http://www.angelfire.com/va/planeswlk/

Description:

These files are all thats required to be able to create tokens, all necessary data is included.
**>>The main file is MomirLists.html. This is the only file you should open in your browser.<<**
The view consists of a 2-framed page; the top frame is a static Table of Contents and includes links to all the mana-cost levels, each of which are separate HTML files to ease the burden on the browser compared to one huge list.
A noframes section duplicating the TOC is provided in case your browser doesnt support frames.
Each mana-level is accompanied by a total count so the number of sides to roll on the die is easily located.
****Note: for the larger lists (2, 3, 4, 5 CC), PLEASE WAIT and allow the browser to FULLY LOAD the page before searching or trying to goto the bottom!
** If you find the text size is too small to read, use your browser's Text Size control to force everything up a few font size notches. This is commonly accomplished by holding the Ctrl key down and rolling the mousewheel down. Its also in the browser View menu. (Just remember to reset this size level when youre done as other web pages will be look huge!)

To use (in MWSPlay):

When you have determined the mana-cost level for the random creature, click the appropriate link at the top. The number indicates how many cards there are for that level; you should enter this number in MWS for the number of sides on the die. In MWS, roll the die, setting the sides (Ctrl-I).
Take the number rolled and come back to the Lists (Alt-Tab). Search the table, using the builtin Find feature in your browser (commonly bound to Ctrl-F). If you have an option to search whole words only, this may help eliminate finding low numbers in text fields. Note that you may need to make sure the browser's internal focus is on the bottom frame by clicking in it somewhere. Or, you can manually scroll the list to the desired number.
Once found, read your card. Start copying the info by highlighting the creature type (the part after the hyphen; if its legendary, selecting the whole type may be better) and continuing to highlight into the next table cell (still click-dragging) all the card text. Press Ctrl-C. Commit the card name, color, and P/T to memory temporarily. Switch back to MWSPlay (Alt-Tab) and press Ctrl-T to start making a token. Fill in the card name (however much you need to be clear, it doesnt have to be the full name), set the color and P/T. Focus the cursor on the Ability box and press Ctrl-V to paste the text. Press Create, youre done!
As long as your opponent is using the same files as you, you can double-check his rolls on the lists. This is highly recommended.

How Created:
Mana-cost creature-only groups were dumped from MWS to inventories after sorting by the Mana field. The inventories are exported as HTML, then cleaned up to show correct table headers, remove superfluous HTML tags, and run thru a programming script to add a column for numbering the lists.
Excluded during creation: 1996 World Champ, ante cards Tempest Efreet and Timmerian Fiends, X-costed creatures that come into play as 0/0, and Planeswalkers (MWS lumps them in for some reason).

Please direct all questions and comments to the Momir Basic thread http://www.magi-soft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5743 as development will be discussed there.
Additionally there is discussion on the http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/ Magic Workstation section (mainly update announcements only or questions)
