If you have time and skills - please write your software and make it as open source.
Last years I had additional job except MWS, but in March I lost it. And now MWS is only money source for my family, it's why last monhs I force development of my new software (http://virtualplaytable.com) to supersede MWS and now I'm working at home fulltime to finish it. I can't make it opensource or free, else I should move to other city to find any other job for my and will not interesting in support mws or other software at all.
Hi Detonator,
i respect your decision but i think this is a suicide for MWS, the main strenght of the program is the great number of users, so i can't understand why you want rewrite a new program.

I'm the webmaster of one of the most important italian magic site, now we are using MWS for our on-line leagues, but if you'll not develop MWS anymore we'll have to change program, cause now MWS don't menage the new INNISTRAD mechanic "Transform".

So the natural step is to choose http://cockatrice.de/index.php?a=project a new open source program that works pretty good, that will be developed forever.

Thank you for your work in these years.

Cockatrice has come a long way... I'm starting to think games that have the cards and even decks online might be the future. That said I would love a rock solid MWS style program in Virtual Playtable or OPT

Despite it bugs and problems, MWS is still dominant. I believe that when it really won't be able new editions people will scramble to find a new program to use and whoever going to be better positionned at that point will take it all.

OPT and Virtual Play Table suffer from non-open source code but are looking better than Cockatrice right now. All these porgrams have long way to go however. I'm not rooting for anyone in particular, just hoping we get something better and hopefully somewhat compatible (I would like something that get import all my deck list, one of the main reason i use MWS is to test deck and keep a list of all my decks.)

It will be interesting how this develops. I`ve used MWS for many years now and even flawed, it is still my favorite. As stated above, building, managing and testing decks is the most important thing and MWS does still the trick. The statistic-tool is also very helpful, when going for the mana-base.

I`ll keep an eye on the future developments, but as long MWS works for me and the other programmes are not significantly better, why should I switch? I`ve paid for it and will use it as long as possible ;)

It`s a pity, that it isn`t developed any more and IMO the buying options should be removed from the page. Or at least an information, that the programm will never reach v1.0. That would be fair to new customers.
