Copy from deck to inventory feature

Postby Goblin Hero » 04 Oct 2010, 12:42

Current wishlist includes several similar features. The main idea is to be able to copy/import cards from deck to inventory. Why do you want it? (And do not ask for adding set information to the decks. I won't allow creation of all-lands-with-different-pictures nonsense.)
You want to quickly add precons? Help me converting them to .mai format. It is the proper way.
You have some decks in other formats and want them to merge with the inventory? Spend some time: convert them manually and use inventories (not decks) from now on (you can merge inventories if needed).
Why do you need it? Explain it. Convince me. Personally I do not think this feature is needed.

If implementing set info into the mad format is not possible, then copy from a deck to the inventory without set information hasn't got any sense ...

In my opinion these 2 features are linked.

Everything is possible. It's just against my view of the program.

Copy from deck to inventory is a useless feature for people already having their inventory completed, because the .MAI format is so much more powerful than the .MAD format.

On the other hand it would be a time saver feature for new comers that have several mwDeck files and are starting to create their inventories in MA (MAD would need set awareness for this to work).

Also:
MAD format is unable to 100% replicate a physical deck.
MAI is able to, but not intended to be usable as a deck file...

I'm getting out of topic here, but honestly, all of these are relatively low priority stuff.

MA is great, it's your program, and you have all the rights to develop it your way. :D

Sure. It replicates a deck from tournament point of view.

So your view of the program is that MAD is a format for tournament players?

It would save time making the precon .mais if you could create a new inventory then merge an existing precon .mwsDeck into it so that you have the list of cards so you only have to check off presence/absence and quantity rather than searching for every single card in the precon in the 60K+ cards of the main db :(

Alternately, allow the main db to use .mwsDeck files (or other arbitrary lists of cards?) as filters, so having filtered the main card list by the .mwsDeck file it shows all the cards with the same name in all of their set / art variations (and could be further filtered by set).

That way making a precon inventory is just copy/paste from WotC's published inventory and going through the physical deck making sure you have the correct numbers of the various cards and the right count of the different land arts.

Is there any way to compare or split inventories?

Nope. But I like the idea. Add it to the wishlist.

I only use this feature in MWS as a workaround for other things; so yeah, it's useless.

Personally, I have no qualms with the deck system. Set information is useless unless you use decks as if they were inventories; which obv you shouldn't, you do have inventories.

What I'd like is support for importing some crude plain text format as an inventory (even .dec is fine.) When I posted that on the wishlist I did mention .dec files, but that's just my inventory source for that specific task I talk about. Decks are always gonna be the source for that, I can't control it.

I should just man up and make my own tool for merging .decs into an inventory. Which isn't really difficult, I was just using MWS for it. I want to ditch it, so in the wishlist I ask Goblin Hero to do my work for me  .
