Solo Play?

Postby Fracturedorb » 28 Oct 2009, 23:17

Is there any way to play this solo, or versus yourself just to test some things out?

There is no AI at the moment, but you can play versus yourself to test cards
By default, MagicWars.properties file has address=localhost, so to do that just run client twice and choose Create game in one and Join in another.

More tips: if you want to test smth, very often you need this card at the beginning and some cards on the battlefield. For these pusposes you can use additional config files that depends on your nickname (actually userid that server gives you depending on your nick).
I'd suggest to use always "Player" and "Player2" that have predefined id=8 and id9 (if you use Player in both clients, second will be switched to Player2 automatically - that means just download MagicWars and start twice (Create and Join), you'll automatically get game with Player and Player2 in play)
*woooh* then before starting game you may use these files:
hand8.txt (actually hand<id>.txt) in the following format:
Code: Select all
Ghitu Encampment
1
Shock
2
End
and you'll get a Ghitu Encampment and two Shocks in your hand

odds8.txt (odds<id>.txt)
Code: Select all
Jace Beleren
1
Mountain
5
End
as you'll get a Jace Beleren and five Mountains in play

is it clear?

I just tried to run it twice, not trying to force the hand or what's in play. Once the second player joined, the server asked which deck to play, the client did not, and the game didn't begin. What am I missing?

anything in console? may be any exception occured though it shouldn't

just tried to download the latest public version from code.google (1.1.5b1)
and it works for me, at least for there steps:
1. run startClient.bat
2. Press "Create game"
3. You will be asked for nickname with prefilled "Player"
don't change it, now server has been started
then
4. run startClient.bat once again
5. now press "Join game"
6. once again you will be asked for nickname, let it be "Player" (it's ok that it is the same, it will be changed to Player2)

now both clients ask you decks to choose. choose any of them and start playing

n.b.: scripting and solo play not available for current public version, it will be uploaded later

that's it... I changed the 2nd player name.

Wow, this is an impressive game. I wish I could change the backgrounds though.

does it work now? actually you can change your name to whatever you want, don't know why it didn't show you decklist

about bg: no, there is no skins in MW
but it's still possible now - as you know, jars are zip files
so unpack MagicWars.jar (by any program, or just renaming to .zip)
and replace MagicWars.jar\images\bg\background.jpg
then back to .jar and you have new picture

may be I will implement skins in future, but not know
