gccg - generic collectible card game.

Yesterday I found this really interesting piece of software. It was postponed for a long time, but it is under active development once again.
Here is a description from its website:
"Generic Collectible Card Game is a multiplayer multiplatform implementation of a card game engine. The card game engine is designed to be of general purpose core for several modules each defining the game specific behaviour. Players download a client for their platform and all modules of interest. After launching the client for one of the games, it connects to the central server of the game chosen. When connected, all aspects of the collecting, trading and playing are availble to the player.
Here is a brief summary of features:
Deck editor including import and export from/to a text file.
Fast game play: bureaucracy not implemented (on purpose).
1-4 players.
You can watch games while not playing yourself.
Highly customizable: macros and scripting language included.
Servers have a knowledge of several game formats (for example Type 1, Type 1.5, etc. in Mtg). Own game formats can be defined.
Sell cards by determining a price and the number of cards for sale. Clients can see always the best offer.
Easy trading: create your want list and the server helps you to find a trade.
Sealed deck games.
Export and import to/from existing deck formats."

Umm...that project is almost 10 years old.
I think that kind of tells you how much interest they really have in trying to complete that one.
What they have doesn't seem like much, but you can be the judge.

gccg is a great application, but being kinda terminal-based makes it complicated to new players.
Also, Ive never seen "big" servers with more than 20 players on them.

I played the middle-earth ccg, one of my favorite games ever, on gccg for a couple of years back in 2004 or so.
It was a fun place with some cool members but as stated by cmaflipp, there were never a lot of folks on the server at one time. And yes, it took a bit of terminal input work to get the software installed on my Mac, but it did work.
As I said it was a fun place at first, but then the admin left to travel around and left other's in charge who frankly drove me & others away by their selfishness & rudeness. Sorry it happened that way as it was a great place to gather & play MTG & middle-earth!

My mate did meet an early grave
'Twas nothing left for us to save
In the peat-filled bogs of Cannelbrae.
