I used to read The Duelist but it was shut down, also Scrye is going to be shut down according to Wikipedia.
On January 29, 2009, the magazine's publisher sent an email to staff and contributors of Scrye announcing that they intend to cease publication of the magazine after the April 2009 edition, the magazine's 131st regular issue.
It looks like the MTG coverage in magazines is going to be slimmer and slimmer or be dead in the not so long future.

I know there are a whole bunch of more foreign (read "non-english", I'm such a silly American...) magazines like Lotus Noir. But not much more for English...
I like being bad... it makes me happy...

Duelist was my favorite and with it's demise, Inquest and Scrye were left.
Sadly other magazines were around for an issue or two, then were gone.

The Beckett version lasted for about 2 years but also sadly went away.

For me the worst loss besides the Duelist was also WoTC's own Sideboard Magazine.
That was a fabulous publication.

Sorry to hear about Scrye. I always preferred it over Inquest and we now have nothing of note left in the periodicals that cover CCG's and other collectible games.

Sadly, printed periodicals are becoming a casualty of the digital age. They have seen their paying readership dwindle, as people can now find the information they seek and more for free on the net. With the proliferation of WLan access and mobile computing devices, even my personal excuses of reading in the bed/bathroom or while out, are losing ground. :(

Ya, I know what you mean. However, I reserve my rights to do some of my best thinking in said bathroom!

Your point is right on, sadly many people don't read period anymore, not just magazines. I love the net for all the info that is out there and ease of access of the information, but nothing will for me, ever replace the feel and smell of printed material.

Agreed Bog Wraith. I don't lie in bed reading my computer. I prefer reading the printed word from a sheet of paper, it's much more convenient, not to mention faster and easier on the eyes.

There ARE excellent magazines published for free, that survive off of advertising revenue.
Here's one to which I subscribe: http://tapeop.com/

Maybe we'll see one in the CCG genre one day.

Ya, I'm not surprised on the subject matter of that magazine, given what it is you do Huggy!
You and I have talked about it and the like regarding content and multi media creation offline in the past.

Thanks for the link, looks pretty cool, I'm going to check it out when I have some bloody time to myself!
