Just as a suggestion if someone wants to do it. Create a 'winner' graphic using a card frame with a victory like picture or medal and then text below for those who took first second and third place.
If someone wants to do that... that'd be fun to give out then to the top three.

We're entering into the final week for submissions. So if you've been planning and plotting, this is the time to submit your creation for consideration in the first Forge Deckbuilder competition!
Decks will be accepted up until Midnight July 16th, 2010 Central Time. Submissions after this will not be eligible.
Once the deadline is passed, you have two weeks in which to try out the decks, and choose your top three (currently I know we only have 5 entries, but that's no matter, we can always get more at the last minute). A voting thread will be created shortly after submissions have been taken for you to post your votes.
Good luck everyone! I hope we have a fun time trying out our new toys.

Re: DECK BUILDER CONTEST: June/July - Summertime!// A Summer
by jdmoralesp » 11 Jul 2010, 04:08
Well, the first thing I think about summer is heat!, and what is better to cool the heat but the beach!
DECK: "A SUMMER IN DUBAI"
60 CARDS
3x Hedron Crab
4x Mahamoti Djinn
4x Desert Drake
2x Coral Eel
4x Serendib Efreet
4x Ceta Disciple
4x Sphinx of Jwar Isle
Spells
4x Dehydration
2x Tortoise Formation
3x Savage Twister
4x Desert Twister
Lands
4x Tropical Island
4x Volcanic Island
4x City of Brass
2x Coastal Tower
4x Seaside Citadel

Forest Fire
Lands:
7 Forest
3 Mountain
4 Stomping Ground
4 Taiga
3 Raging Ravine
4 Wooded Foothills
Creatures:
3 Arc-Slogger
4 Blastoderm
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Flametongue Kavu
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Mycoloth
4 Troll Ascetic
Others:
1 Earthquake
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Sarkhan Vol
I chose forest fires as the thing that I associate with summer since those occur with a higher probability during summer. Plus it reminds me of the Greek forest fires that happened during the summer of 2007.
The card associations with the theme are pretty much self-evident. But for those who don’t see it, we have your typical woodland creatures (albeit based on woodland creatures of the Multiverse), your typical forest fire igniters (Sarkhan and his dragons, lightning, etc.), and your typical reaction when a calamity occurs (haste).
Some notes I’d like to share:
- This deck was built around Sarkhan Vol. Get him into the battlefield ASAP!
- Arc-Slogger is an awesome finisher when you wanna deal some cheap direct damage to an opponent.
- Sarkhan Vol and Mycoloth make an interesting combination…the Saproling tokens are more threatening thanks to the +1/+1 and haste, plus you can devour an opponent’s key creature with the help of Sarkhan’s 2nd ability.
- After using Sarkhan’s ultimate (provided he has exactly 6 loyalty counters so he would die from the process), you can play another Sarkhan Vol and give those dragons +1/+1 and haste!

Well, we have until Midnight Tomorrow. I'll be putting links to all the official entries come saturday, so everyone can download them if need be and start the fun of judging the tourney.
Just as an FYI, I've not allowed updated versions of submitted decks, even though after looking at my own entry, I found one MAJOR card change I'd do. Oh well, that will be for the HARD version for when many of these decks become AI decks if they can.

I was going more for the kind of bugs I seem to always find on my picnics: ants, gnats and mosquitoes, etc. I was a little disappointed that Fire Ants isn't supported though.jdmoralesp wrote:A quick suggestion to Picnic deck cyplix...where are the most annoying of bugs....where are the scute mobs!!!

Well. Sorry. I've been really busy elsewhere especially with my studies (it's not exactly summertime in my countrypsillusionist wrote:Where is apthaven anyway? That guy likes making decks and I'm surprised that he doesn't have an entry yet.

Anyway. I have created a deck for this contest. I hope it isn't too late really. Since I myself missed creating decks for quite a while now, why not create one?
I call this deck "Camping Expedition" since summertime aside from going to the seaside is a period for some, to travel or to hike to someplace through camping trips or picnics of the sort.
This is mostly a weenie deck with creatures that landwalk, along with some landfall triggers via equipment and/or abilities. The simple idea is to just grab as much lands as you can, grab your adventuring equipment, stall, and bypass the enemy defenses for the win via landwalk and landfall, flying or protection. I didn't make this deck really powerful enough with enough control cards or huge creatures, as I felt that it would break the camping and travelling theme it generates. The sense of this one is to just generate the thrill and excitement of an expedition or hike to some place unknown. Just as a first time hiker would feel.
Camping Expedition
60 Total Cards
20 Creatures
-------------
2x Borderland Ranger
3x Cliff Threader
2x Kor Cartographer
4x Kor Duelist
4x Kor Firewalker
3x Kor Skyfisher
2x Marsh Threader
16 Spells
----------
3x Adventuring Gear
2x Exploration
4x Fog
3x Khalni Heart Expedition
2x Kitesail
2x Trailblazer's Boots
24 Land
--------
6x Forest
2x Jungle Shrine
8x Plains
2x Stirring Wildwood
4x Sunpetal Grove
2x Temple Garden
I seriously doubt this deck to be consistent in winning, as this deck wasn't made for serious hardcore magic matches, more of the fun factor and the theme really.

Great job. Submission accepted. This is going to be real interesting. I don't think many of the decks are really that powerful because you couldn't ignore the theme to badly. But what do I know? It's the first time out for everyone. As long as you had fun, it's been a success so far.

I'm an incorrigible procrastinator.
My deck's a little less focused in the theme department, I just went with everything I could think of that fit summer, so I've got sun, heat, bugs, lizards... To fit as much fun in, my deck is entirely one-ofs (except, of course, for basic land). It's inconsistent and can be clunky, but I still had fun making it a playing with it.
60 Total Cards
20 Creatures
-------------
1x Blazing Archon Blazing like the sun
1x Blinding Mage Blinding with light
1x Carnivorous Plant Plants thrive in summer
1x Lotus Cobra So do snakes
1x Mul Daya Channelers
1x Novablast Wurm "The sun was born within its coils"
1x Phytohydra Another fun plant
1x Reveillark The art is reminiscent of brightness and summer
1x Ridgetop Raptor Lizards enjoy the heat
1x Rith, the Awakener He can grow lots of plants
1x Scute Mob The bugs come out
1x Skitter of Lizards
1x Sporecap Spider
1x Suntail Hawk
1x Sunweb Sunny!
1x Symbiotic Wurm
1x Utopia Tree
1x Vengevine Overgrown plants
1x Vine Trellis
1x Wall of Heat That's summer in a few words
15 Spells
----------
1x Blaze
1x Bountiful Harvest
1x Chandra Nalaar
1x Heat Ray
1x Overrun
1x Rampant Growth
1x Sarkhan Vol
1x Sprouting Vines
1x Sunbeam Spellbomb
1x Sunglasses of Urza Can't forget your sunglasses
1x Sunlance
1x Sword of Light and Shadow
1x Tempest of Light
1x Trusty Machete
1x Unyaro Bee Sting
25 Land
--------
1x Arid Mesa
8x Forest
4x Mountain
5x Plains
1x Raging Ravine
1x Rugged Prairie
1x Savannah
1x Stirring Wildwood
1x Sungrass Prairie
1x Sunpetal Grove
1x Treetop Village
The planeswalkers are a little less summery, but I imagine out of the ones available, they'd enjoy the heat the most.
Cheers, everyone!
