MTGDecks.net Deck Lists - over 1233600 decks

Here's my next deck pack, it's a collection of deck lists from http://www.mtgdecks.net, converted to be immediately playable in Forge. All the decks were converted (although empty placeholders were sorted out), as such some of the decks may be repeats and some of them may be incomplete (on the original site as well). Hope you find this pack interesting and useful!

Last Updated: March 14, 2024

NOTE: The packs below have deck lists grouped by format. However, if a deck is listed as "Standard", it does NOT mean that it necessarily corresponds to Standard as it is at the moment, it means that it corresponded to Standard at the moment of its creation (whenever that was). The same holds true for other formats.

NOTE 2: Some deck names may have UTF-8 characters in them, which may or may not properly show up in Forge (the deck will still load correctly though).

NOTE 3: All the decks were converted using an automated process, so some of them may theoretically be e.g. classified into the wrong format (hopefully cases like that are rare/non-existent though). Also, there may be some repeat decks and some incomplete decks.

NOTE 4: All decks have their unique MTGDecks.net deck ID in their names so that you can trace them to the original page on the source site: http://www.mtgdecks.net/decks/view/XXXX, where XXXX is the deck ID number.

NOTE 5: The decks are now grouped not only by their format but also by the set they are deduced to belong to. This may be a bit imprecise in some cases, but hopefully in the absolute majority of cases it helps determine which set/block/game era the deck belongs to. It also massively reduces clutter inside the subfolders and hopefully makes it considerably easier to find the necessary decks when looking for decks from a particular time frame.

The "All Supported Decks" pack contains all decks from MTGDecks.net that can be loaded into Forge (no matter whether they are playable by the AI opponent or not), which (as of the latest update) includes 1233612 decks in Block, Brawl, Commander, Extended, Frontier, Highlander, Historic, Legacy, Modern, Pauper, Peasant, Pioneer, Penny-Dreadful, Standard, and Vintage formats, among others.

The "AI Playable Decks" pack contains all decks from MTGDecks.net that have only AI-playable cards in the main deck (note that the sideboard may still contain some AI-unplayable cards in these decks, which can trigger a warning message - it can be safely ignored because the current AI does not sideboard). Please note that the fact that these decks are AI-playable does *not* mean that the AI will play with all of them smartly and sensibly. Some of the more advanced decks that require precise strategic considerations or timing will not be expertly utilized by the AI (however, most aggro and aggro-control decks are utilized quite well, and some control/combo decks can also be played by the AI relatively well). As of the latest update this pack includes 564277 decks playable by the AI (tested against current Forge build).

The "AI (Limited) Playable Decks" is a pack that contains all the AI playable decks from the pack above plus additional decks from MTGDecks.net that have one or several cards in them that are marked as "AI unplayable" in the code base but which are known to be played relatively well given a properly constructed deck and which were used before, for example, in quest decks. These decks that are playable but in a "limited" way are marked with the [!] in their file names. IMPORTANT: with these decks, you will get a warning that there are one or more AI-unplayable cards in the deck. However, you can expect relatively good quality of AI gameplay with these cards because they were "tested" in the AI's virtual hands before in quest decks or in other circumstances. You should expect the lower overall quality of AI with (most of) these decks, however, you should not experience any AI rule violations (at least that's the hope) or serious errors such as crashes. This pack, all in all, contains 636831 decks that can be tried by the AI.

The "Unsupported Decks" pack contains all decks from MTGDecks.net (4890 at the moment) that contain one or more cards NOT CURRENTLY SUPPORTED by Forge (the unsupported cards are commented out with "#", so you can take a look and edit the deck if necessary). These decks will show up as incomplete until Forge is able to support the remaining cards in question or until you edit the deck and replace the unsupported cards with something else. For the most part, the unsupported cards still left in these megapacks are either: (a) decks with incorrect card names specified; (b) decks with silver-bordered cards or other substandard cards not (yet) in Forge; (c) decks with cards specified by their secondary face (the deck is supported, but the card needs to be renamed by its primary face).

WOW! This is beyond amazing Agetian, thank you! This and the other mega monolithic deck deluge from 23 February really make my TCG, Tapped Out, and Deckbox import by hand look VERY insignificant.

There are a LOT of great decks at these sites but unlike you and gos, I have no idea how to do a mass download, conversion, and import. :(

This is really brilliant work. Perhaps you might want to look at Tapped Out and TCG Player and see if the same could be done?

Oh, and did I say thank you? ;)

Best,
Vlad

Thanks! :) Glad to hear you're enjoying my packs!
I will definitely see what I can do with other similar resources (and I'll definitely take a look at the ones you mentioned), a lot depends, however, on the export facilities that the website offers (e.g. does it provide plaintext deck lists in MWS format or in some other similar text format?).

This is a great resource! How often will you be updating it?

Forge has the ability as of a patch or two ago to load in net decks. Look in the release notes and on the patch notes here. There are instructions on how to add sites.

Best,
Vlad

Oh I know how to add in net decks. My question to OP was how often is he going to be converting lists from MTGDecks.net into Forge compatible decks.

I will most likely update it in a while, I can't predict when exactly but I will release an update once I have time to run the conversion and check everything and stuff. :) Thanks, glad to hear you're enjoying it!

Thank you for taking the time in getting this thing sorted and posted. The addition of more AI decks for Forge to play with is outstanding. 8)

UPDATE (10 May 2015):
Added incremental update packs that provide deck lists published on MTGDecks.net between February 28, 2015 and May 10, 2015. This adds a total of 14464 new fully supported decks in Standard, Commander, Legacy, Pauper (NEW), Modern and Vintage formats, among them 2969 AI-playable ones. There are also 1223 partially unsupported decks. Note that the large number of unsupported decks is due to the notable absence of Dragon Presence cards from the Dragons of Tarkir set in Forge.

Download links are available in the first post of the thread.
Enjoy!

UPDATE (15 May 2015):
Updated the incremental update packs that provide deck lists published on MTGDecks.net between February 28, 2015 and May 10, 2015. NOTE: This pack has been updated with Dragon Presence cards recently implemented in Forge. You need a recent SVN build to play with those decks (r29395 or newer), at least until Forge v1.5.40 is released.
This adds a total of 15688 new fully supported decks in Standard, Commander, Legacy, Pauper (NEW), Modern and Vintage formats, among them 3149 AI-playable ones. There are also 144 unsupported decks (due to cards not yet coded in Forge).

Download links are available in the first post of the thread.
Enjoy!

I'd love to see Modern get it's own category for these lists. It seems fairly strongly supported these days, and I'm sure there's a whole bunch of decklists out there.

Ah, yes, Modern is actually in there (and in its own category), I just forgot to mention it in the update post for some reason... :D
