Tolarian Academy

Postby acreasey » 09 Jan 2010, 03:32

4 Counterspell
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Darksteel Colossus
4 Darksteel Gargoyle
4 Grim Monolith
6 Island
2 Master Transmuter
4 Master of Etherium
2 Memnarch
1 Mox Sapphire
4 Seat of the Synod
3 Shield Sphere
2 Sol Ring
3 Time Walk
4 Tinker
4 Tolarian Academy
3 Vedalken Archmage 2 U U

In the realm of ridiculous cards there is Tolarian Academy and then there is everything else. This card is insane. There have been countless permutations of decks that utilize this card's power, and here is mine. With the right draw, a second turn Darksteel Colossus is completely common. And we all know what to do with a second turn Darksteel Colossus.

Turn 1: mox, Sol Ring.
Turn 2: Tinker, sac the mox for Darksteel Colossus. *Realising that I do not know what to do with it, I panic, scream and concede the game.
This deck scares me.

You, my friend, do not know what to do with a Mox, Sol Ring and Tinker in your starting hand!
Turn 1: Land, Sol Ring, Mox Saphire, Tinker @ Mox -> Darksteel Collossus
Alternative, using thread title: Land => Tolaria, Sol Ring => Shield Sphere
An even more insane draw/play would be:
T1 Artifact Land, Sol Ring, Grim Monolith
T2 Tolarian Academy, Mox Saphire or two Shield Spheres, hardcast Collosus :)
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

For the record, I did not have a land in my starting hand, but I did have the Tinker so I kept it. Of course I won the game 2 turns later.
I plan on making a RL version with the cards I have. I will have to pass on the moxes and Timewalk, but I can find substitues for them, sort of. Still should be a darn fast deck that my opponent will not enjoy. (which, of course, is the point of the whole thing. )
After all, you play this game to win. If that means losing a friend or two in the process, such is the price of victory!
Possible RL turn 1: Tolarian Academy, 3 Shield Sphere, Tinker targeting Shield Sphere bringing Darksteel Colossus into play.
2 turns later, it's all over. "Wanna try that again?" :D

Oh sorry, I thought that was meant to be a sample, not an actual play :).

It was actual play. Well, not the part where I concede the game, that was just a joke towards this:

I mean, first time play and then get a turn 2 Colossus? WOWSERS!
That is what I meant about this deck being scary, it works, it is fast, it is no fun if you are on the other end of it.
In other words, it is perfect for me.
