I'm glad you enjoyed it Chris! :)

Necro decks are just so damn fun to play! And challenging too!

I take it though, that you too are yet to see the AI cast and play with Necropotence?
Well, there might be a bug in that area, so the best way to find out is for all of us to play this and other Necro decks that we might design and play them many times and see if this occurs.

Post your results guys, if any, when you can!

I put together a computer test deck that the computer has been using while I test out some new cards. This deck contains a Necropotence and a Yawgmoth's Bargain. I think these two cards are somewhat similar.

When the computer puts the Yawgmoth's Bargain into play it tends to draw cards in a normal fashion and does not lose any life. It will cast the Necropotence several turns later and tends not to draw any cards. I think that one turn it paid life for several cards but then stopped. I waited for several more turns and then quite the game.

I'm thinking about putting together my own deck at some point. Many years ago I was at the gaming store and bought two boxes of this set's booster packs and got my own Necropotence. In those days there wasn't much that I could do with it. I seem to remember Dark Ritual with both specters and hymn to Tourach and Drain Life as being a centerpiece for my deck. That was many years ago.

I like your idea of Necro and burn. I might try to turn it tournament legal. One Necropotence, one Yawgmoth's Bargain, one Demonic Tutor and three/four Liliana Vess. There is likely to be more red burn spells that could be used to fill up the deck.

I will probably continue to think about for a while. I have some notes here for 20+ decks that I am considering. I have two deviant type decks in mind. I will probably complete these two first.

The Computer won't cast Necro

Postby mtgrares » 08 Dec 2008, 19:30

I computer won't cast Necropotence and Yawgmoth's Bargain, because I don't know how to code the AI. Some cards like Shock and Giant Growth are always good to play. These types of cards will always help out the player who plays them. While Wrath of God and Infest are situational cards and the computer is horrible when he uses cards like these. The computer will not play some other cards but I can't remember which ones. I probably need a global list of all cards the computer doesn't play. By the way, the computer also doesn't play the activated ability of certain cards, I would give you an example but nothing comes to mind. I hope that clears up some confusion. --Forge

Planeswalker

Postby mtgrares » 08 Dec 2008, 19:34

Thanks for the idea about adding a "Planeswalker" list. For now I probably won't touch the code and Liliana Vess will just be put under the spells listing. I'll keep this in mind for the future.

Thanks for the clarification with Necropotence and the AI.

Necro has always been very difficult to implement within any AI opponent featured MTG software, so it's not surprising that the problems with trying to write the code for it are such as they are.

No matter, I'm very happy to be able to play with my favorite card of all time!

Glad we could all be of help in pointing out the need for making Planeswalker a separate list.

In reading what is planned for version 2 of Forge in another thread, my excitement and anticipation grows every day! :D

Version 2 is still awhile from being usable. I didn't write version 1 on any sort of a timetable, so I hate to make any guesses about version 2.

No rush!

I can wait, and don't expect anything for quite awhile.

Nonetheless, I was very glad to read that you were in fact beginning your work on v2, and I am looking forward to it, whenever it will be ready! :)

If you find that you need to bump up your life totals, swap in a few Tendrils of Corruption and/or Soul Feast.

Some other niceties to explore, and of course, you can customize the deck by changing it to your liking.

Enjoy!

I recently put together a minor variation of your Necro Burn deck. I changed several cards while keeping most of your original deck.

The deck below works fairly well during games where I failed to cast either the Necropotence or the Yawgmoth's Bargain spells. I also tried a variant of my deck where I replaced the following cards:

1x Liliana Vess
1x Necropotence
2x Nevinyrral's Disk
1x Yawgmoth's Bargain

with theses cards:

1x Chandra Nalaar
1x Kamahi, Pit Fighter
+1 Douse in Gloom
2x Firebolt

Necro-Burn-CH.deck:

60 Total Cards

14 Creatures
-------------
2x Blistering Firecat
2x Flametongue Kavu
4x Hypnotic Specter
1x Kokusho, the Evening Star
1x Korlash, Heir to Blackblade
1x Nightmare
1x Shivan Dragon
1x Shriekmaw
1x Visara the Dreadful

24 Spells
----------
2x Beacon of Destruction
1x Demonic Tutor
2x Douse in Gloom
2x Lava Spike
4x Lightning Bolt
2x Morsel Theft
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Ruby
1x Necropotence
2x Nevinyrral's Disk
2x Soul Feast
3x Tendrils of Corruption
1x Yawgmoth's Bargain

1 Planeswalker
---------------
1x Liliana Vess

21 Land
--------
4x Badlands
4x Blood Crypt
6x Mountain
5x Swamp
2x Terramorphic Expanse

Cool Chris, I'm going to play with your version too!

I'm glad to see folks like you tuning the deck to there liking. The possibilities are endless when players do this. By doing this, it gives me other ideas to swap in/out cards to try other ways of playing the deck! 8)

In reference to the two decks that I posted above:

People may want to consider replacing the Firebolt and the Lava Spike spells with Volcanic Hammer. Volcanic Hammer costs 1 more mana to cast but is equal to a Lightning Bolt in damage potential.

In one game I found that I could not target a planeswalker with the Lightning Bolt but could target the planeswalker with a Volcanic Hammer.

This is a version of the Burn No Necro deck that the computer can play. The computer will sometimes cast the Tendrils of Corruption on a creature that will survive the damage. Other than that, this deck works OK.

This deck has been modified for the computer's AI to use against a human opponent. The non-basic lands have been replaced with basic lands. Several additional sources of non land based mana have been added.
