Server Down Again?

Right, the log looks okay.

I messed up with the netstat command. Tried it myself and it didn't show port 3000, but when you type

netstat -an

It should show more stuff.

If you run as administrator you can also try netstat -abn

The b option shows the actuall program responsible for the opened port, but this option will take some time to fully process, about 2 minutes on my machine, but it's got an insane amount of ports open.

ran both commands.

The first one generated a very long report so I took it in two pics. It shows a heck of allot of ports but not 3000.
I was wondering if I could try any one of the 127.0.0.1 TCP ports, say 49333 because it says "Established" from the guest machine or must it be port 3000 for both machines.

The second command said it requires elevation, whatever that means.

it's there in the 1st screenshot, 5th from the top, listening on port 3000. to verify its the optserver change the port on the server to something funny like 1337 and run the command again.

to get around the elevation problem.

http://gaskell.org/the-requested-operat ... ows-vista/

this also tells me you dont have admin rights. do you run the optservergui.exe as admin? that may be needed on vista and w7 systems.

what we could try is connect to you from outside your network.
did you have a router setup to forward the 3000 port to the windows machine running the server?

I missed that thanks!

I tried port 1337 and it shows up 4th from the top.

I ran in Admin. Here is report. You can see OPT SERV at 1337.

I have no knowledge of port forwarding so I can`t say.

My network runs of my Apple Airport extreme. My LAN works with all my different systems which is 3 Macs & my one PC.

I wouldn't know how to check for any port forwarding.

Ok, so do you also run the server as admin?

If you pm me your ip and the port you are running on, i can try to connect from outside, maybe airport is smart enough to redirect the request to the proper computer.

Find out your "outside world ip" via this site:

http://www.whatismyip.com

the port would be the port you chose to run the optserver on, default 3000.

Im about to have dinner followed by some tv.

I've started a server on a pc of mine back home
All sets loaded for sealed, any problems let me know.

server.onlineplaytable.com port 3000

ok, I knew my ip address, I got confused with the router's ip for my different machines on my LAN.

I'd like to set up a server of my own, but I don't have the knowledge. Maybe you can direct me to a book or a site that can help a beginner set up & run a home based server. I'll talk to you about it some time if it's ok with you.

Thank you for all your help, I really apprecoate your paitence & your time.

I'll use your server for the meantime and we'll see what happens with my LAN later on in the week.

Thank you again! :)

Yeah, no problem.

Because you do get it to run and have it show in netstat, I think the problem lies in a firewall setting somewhere.

What if you run the server on your mac and connect to that instead? Windows sometimes has a mind of it's own when it comes to allowing connections.

That was one of the things I tried when I first setup your server. No, the same problem occurs.

In the meantime, it is great to have your server running & my wife & I thank you!

As I said, I had plans to get a server going in my home to act as a media centre to feed my tv's and stereo. I also want to set it up as a game server for some of the different games my wife & I have played for years, whether on our LAN or when we had to use an outside server.

I hope to have some hardware to do so by next week and I'd like if you could recommend a book or a web site that can help a beginner like me set up the server at home.

You could get a book on Windows Server 2008.
But amazon.com will probably also have a windows networking beginners book. I got most my knowhow from google and trial and error.
I really cannot wrap my head around this problem you are having. Have you ever tried setting up an ftp server?
Any server that will allow access from your mac's would help out to determine if it's just a network problem, firewall problem, port problem or whatever. I'm out of idea's now and its bedtime.

Talk to you later!

Found a pretty decent tutorial on how to open ports on windows 7.

Did you already perform these steps?

http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/op ... -firewall/

Replace port 80 with port 3000 and choose TCP

Good luck!

Nope!

I followed the guide and everything was fine & easy to set up, especially for Windows!

Same damn problem! 1061! :x

I think, based only on intuition mind you, the problem might be with my router or the dsl box from my isp. Every damn computer has the 3000 port that needs to be open set up that way. But what makes me think that I'm wrong for thinking this is that, as I have said a number of times already, I can connect from my XP install in Parallels on my Mac as the guest to my Win 7 PC as the host when using MWS! And yes, I have tried the 4747 port in Opt Server configuration and nothing worked. This then gets me thinking that there might be a problem with the OPT Server and LAN connections. Yes, another "gut" feeling, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the F@#K is causing this!

Not knowing what is causing this is making me hesitant in setting up my own home server because if the problem is in my router or dsl box, my server probably won't make it any more likely for my computers to be able to hook up to it. But then again, maybe it will as I have no problems when I hook up to your or Nico's server.

This issue is driving me ](*,)

At this time, can you connect via mws to your windows "server" pc from your mac on port 4747?

If you can, try this:

Move the mws program folder someplace else and move the OPTServer folder in it's place, rename it also to what the mws folder was named.

Rename OPTServerGUI to MWSPlay.exe, start the server, windows will probably ask you if you want to allow it to connect to the internet. Change the port to 4747, restart.

This will hopefully make windows think that the optserver is mwsplay, running on port 4747.

silly note, but make sure the client also connects on 4747 ;)
