Image Search Function

Postby teknojo » 06 Oct 2012, 02:22

Hello,

I poked around and searched a couple of terms and did not find a discussion along these lines. I was wondering if anyone has worked on a program or app that would take web cam images or scans from a digital phone of existing cards and compare it to a database of images like those collected here.

Ideally you would be able to have it on a phone, activate the app and have it capture an image of a card similar to how you can capture an image of a 2D bar code, then use something like Google Image search to compare it to the already scanned data base.

Alternately you could do the same thing using a business card scanner.

The point to this would be to rapidly input your personal collection of cards into a database without having to sit there and manually type in each card. Simply take your cards scan them in and allow the program to build your database for you.

Hey,

I think you may have posted this in the wrong area. This Developer's Forum is specifically for Forge, the Rules Engine. I'm not sure exactly which forum would be the right one, perhaps: viewforum.php?f=73

This was already done for an iphone app using tesseract-ocr (won't advertise, it's easy to find because the author boast about this feature). I haven't seen anything for android, however there may be something similar.
This works by ocr the card name and matching it to the database.
