Forge FAQ?

Postby spr » 21 Sep 2013, 04:24

How about a new read-only Forge sub-forum containing a collection of posts with solutions to common queries? Here are four I can think of each with a link to the posts containing the solution.

I have Java 7 installed on my Mac but Forge still does not run.

How do I navigate back to a previous screen?

How do I store my card images in a different location?

The Deck Editor/Match screen layout is all messed up.

What's the best way to report bugs for Forge?

Ok, perhaps a sub-forum is a bit OTT for an initial five articles (including friarsol's) so how about a read-only "Forge FAQ" Announcement instead? If you look at the ManaLink forums they have forum specific Announcements that appear above the global ones. I don't have the necessary authorisation to create such a topic so perhaps some kindly forum moderator could do it instead starting with the above five links.

While on the subject of sub-forums, instead of lumping everything into one topic would it not be more useful and much clearer if Forge were to have a dedicated "Card Bugs" sub-forum where you could, for example, have one topic per card name. Any issues related to that card can then be posted to that topic. Again a bit like the Bug Reports forum for ManaLink. To my mtg-untrained eye this seems pretty simple and clear way of reporting card mechanic bugs - eg. viewtopic.php?f=86&t=11822 or viewtopic.php?f=110&t=11804.

Steve

It took some time but I figured out how to change a topic into an announcement.

We also have a FAQ section in the forge wiki but there is very little info in that section.

Kind of related.

Does anyone else think the Feature Requests Thread is not fit for purpose? The problem is that it is so easy for stuff to quickly get lost in the noise which I think puts people off making suggestions.

If a separate sub-forum was used then -

  • Each topic would represent a requested feature.
  • As it is a topic, people can post related comments so keeping everything focused in one area.
  • Popular requests would be constantly bumped to the top of the list (due to more frequent posts) and so would remain visible to the dev team.
  • Searching would be easier and clearer since the sub-forum would have its own search field.

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Steve

I think it was more fit for it's purpose 4 years ago when the thread was created. I'm fine with splitting it off into it's own subforum.
