Forge does not run

Postby Efrendil » 10 Aug 2015, 14:14

Hello. Once I found out about Forge I was thrilled. I downloaded some version of it and played around for about 15 minutes. When I was looking at some decks in the "Quest"-meny (I think) Forge crashed. And I can't start it again. When I try to start Forge the starting-up window comes up with the Forge logo and it loads all the way to "Opening main window...", then it stays like that for a couple of seconds, then the "Report a crash"-window pops up. If I click "Continue", then Forge closes down. None of the other options to click starts Forge.

This is what the report says:

Description: [describe what you were doing when the crash occurred]

Things I have tried to fix the problem:
- Turning the computer off and on again
- Updating Java
- Starting Forge as an administrator
- Downloaded the full Java Development Kit
- Tried diffirent versions of Forge

I have Winows 8.

Thanks! I'd really yould like to get this to work. Those 15 minutes of playing around was really joyful!

Removed the older version of Java and the report said this "Java Version: 1.8.0_51 Oracle Corporation". Still didn't work. (Last time it was 1.7).

I think I may have solved the problem. I found another thread in the forums. One of the replies said this:

"Depending on where your OS save your Forge user data go to :

C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Forge\preferences\
or
C:\Users\<yourusername>\Application Data\Roaming\Forge\preferences\
or
C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\Application Data\Forge\preferences\

Then delete the files named :
quest.preferences
deck.preferences
forge.preferences
item_view.preferences

then go to

C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Forge\
or
C:\Users\<yourusername>\Application Data\Roaming\Forge\
or
C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\Application Data\Forge\

And delete the folder named "quest"

Launch Forge"

At first, I couldn't find the folders. Looked everywhere. Then made a one-hour scan searching for "quest.preferences". (Searching for "forge" gave too many results.) My computer found the "quest.preferences" file in a hidden map in one of the named directories. So I unhid all the hidden maps and there it was. I followed the instructions and this far it seems to work. =)

Hope this can help somebody else.
