JRE 1.8

I'm having trouble starting forge since I upgraded to JRE 1.8. The error I receive is "The registry refers to a nonexistent java runtime environment or the runtime is corrupted"

Is this a known issue? Does anyone know any fix? Is forge only compatible with 1.6 and 1.7 at the time? I'd prefer not to run multiple java versions, but if that's what it takes...

I've been successfully running Forge on JRE 8 for the last year or so, possibly more, and experienced no issues (OpenJRE 8 on Linux, as well as Oracle Java 8 on Windows on a friend's machine). The issue you're experiencing is most likely related to something that was broken in Java itself during the upgrade. I'd probably recommend uninstalling all Java version(s) you may have on your machine and installing JRE 8 fresh again, hopefully it'll help.

I'm getting this error too after updating java the other day. As a side note, Eclipse runs just fine as do Libreoffice.

I got around to reinstalling Java after my summer vacation. Works like a charm! :)
