I have written Mantis 88 @ http://cardforge.org/bugz/view.php?id=88

Chris H. wrote:. . . Edit 2, I guess that we can link the this new doc into the "I think I found a bug in Forge. What do I do?" section of Forge's main wiki page.
already done, but with a half hearted recommendation to use it yet.

good idea. are we planning to get rid of the feature request topic as well? i would advocate for that, as it is easy to recommend a feature. it is difficult to report a bug well, because we ask users to provide instructions on reproducing the error. so i think the reporting process for new features should be more difficult than the reporting process for bugs. how is bug reporting easier? we are still allowing beta bugs in the forum under each beta release's topic.

while i sympathize with the non-technical perspective, having a category of "Error Report" in Mantis looks much, much too generic. every bug would logically fit into that category. "why, yes, i am reporting an error, so the category i should choose is Error Report." but no, that is for users who are reporting on error messages/stack traces/errors containing profuse technobabble.

Chris H. wrote:We could remove access to the stack report via the menus. Should this option be a part of the dev mode?
See Mantis 89 @ http://cardforge.org/bugz/view.php?id=89

edit: how about "Error Pop-up"?
edit 2: we can name it whatever we want (that doesn't sound too generic), because we can place that exact name into the text of the error-message-stack-trace-crash-report.

Good point, we only get this report when the game has basically crashed. When this happens we often can not continue the game and have to quit.
If we are able to continue, the game tends to be in an unstable state.

How about Crash Report.

I like Crash Report, since it's distinct from "The AI is playing wrong. That's an error."

"Your Hammer has shattered as you pound away at the Forge. Please report this to your nearest Blacksmith."

No problem. I'm glad you're so impressed with it... I find it rather limited.. but considering there's integration with Eclipse and soon inside Forge itself, it's pretty good.

The wiki article is OK. With the Uncle Forge Wants You section, you should mention that anonymous users can't report a bug in the first place.

   very nice. a friend of mine also got a kick out of my retelling of "Burn the witch!" using a Scottish accent.

done, but using different words.

i have updated both http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Forge and http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/How_to_File_a_Bug_Report_with_Mantis with the above comments.

i would like to put these beasties to bed. if there are any more issues with the documents, feel free to edit them. i'm off to actually write some code for a change.
